Any suggestions for other insurance compaies or products I should look at?

Based on your monthly expense of 100k, a 6 month emergency fund seems insufficient, build it to 1 year because you have 3 kids to support in case your income falls short or suddenly dries up.

It's good to get a college fund for your kids (generali is good because it has a tie-up with BDO in our country) plus their premiums are quite competitive.

As for the rest of your investment funds - select UITF from our big banks like BDO, Metrobank, BPI.

medium to long term - balanced UITF

for the meantime, do not invest in UITF equity type of funds.

@ BatmanBeyond, george88, bauer,

Thank you very much for your replies....

Another question, with regards to the emergency fund, i'm thinking of putting it in a SDA, then monthly renewal na lang...

Do you think its wise to do that?

Thanks again!

why would you elect monthly renewal?

mas ok auto-renewal to avoid any inconvenience. You just have to plan your expenses accordingly.

Speaking of expenses, I suggest you find ways to reduce your monthly expenses. More often than not, you will find out that you have unnecessary expenses. Remember, everything you save up can be used to grow your savings/emergency fund at a much faster rate.
If you need free assistance, just PM me with your monthly expense list and I'll look for any inefficiencies :D I have directly helped one PMT member reduce his expenses and I believe he is ecstatic, hehehe :D

and before you attempt to invest, you should make time to study and read about your options. There is no need to rush at investing.

Nobody seem to mention this however, when calculating for college funds, always include the rate of inflation because the P20k now will not be the same as P20k 18 years from now.

I agree with that. Then, there is medical and retirement. You have to consider the rising cost of medicine and the fund that you need upon retirement.

In LIFE, L is Living with disability and E is Expiring too early. There's a big IF in the middle which means that life is really uncertain and you don't want to leave it through chances.

pag nakikita ko mga computations nyo sir parang ang hirap mabuhay. haha.

pero may natututunan ako.  :applause:

LOL...There is truth in it and its usually sales pitch of insurance.  Just like sa real estate : "Sir, you have tomake a decision na,kasi by end of the month mag price increase na po kami" :)

Back to topic, for emergency fund, I would suggest you put it in Money Market Fund.
1. You can break it into chunks of 100,000s (or even smaller in  other banks)...So its very convenient in fund placement and withdrawal.
2. No holding period (thats my case in BDO MMF), I can withdraw my fund even the day after I placed it. May cutoff time lang siya.
3. Covenience.
4. Competitive returns. My BDO MMF gies me a return of 2.65-2.8%NET this year.

Past performance is not a guarantee of future performance...Also in SDA, if its monthly renewal, you dont know what the new rate will be.

Try to compare with SDA rate....Check UITF money market fund of other banks, they may perform better than BDOs...

You can combine both instruments for your emergency fund.

Di naman siguro, kaya nga may planning, you are anticipating for the event na yun.. Yung computation is based sa future value..

Teach them while young on how to save, invest, and make their passion a living... Allocating a savings and asset while they are young will make them rich enough when they turn college. Let them decide what school they want, what course they want. Freedom of choice will make them happy and success will follow...

FYI TS keep your emergency fund AS EMERGENCY FUND cash and liquidable 24/7 and do not put it to any investment tool or vehicle giving you a high interest that is not GUARANTEED.

Ferrari is correct if you can lessen your monthly expenses much better wala pa yung salary ko sa tax mo sir ah ano ba yang work mo... :D

That's the best way.  follow goodsteward's suggestion, break it to 100k each so that utilization of emergency fund will be by tranches.

vetdocmll,
get an insurance and i suggest you prefer investing in bonds than going to equity funds, bonds reputation is that many look at it as a slow moving asset, but let me tell you that bonds funds income are steady, reliable, risk of loss is very small and most of all your money is compounded year after year whereas stocks has a reputation for being a very risky asset, very volatile, unreliable, unsteady investment.

@theEdge, d ba in terms of NAVPS din ang bond fund like the balanced and equity? Paano siya compounded year after year? Unless kukunin mo and invest uli together with the gain?

pmt, kung d sya compounded d sya tataas kasi ang interest nirereinvest ng manager sa fund kaya tumataas ang navpu at tinetrade din ang debt securities.dito mas malaki ang investments ng mga  giants gaya ng insurance companies, pension, banks, mutual funds etc.just compute kahit na 6-7% annually lang ang interest kung compounded naman for long term naman  d ba .kung ang asset ng insurance companies e billions do you think iinvest nila most sa stock market which is very risky?where u could lose 50% up .dun na sila sa mas mabagal pero stable na pagtaas d ba?
