How do you show you serve God and not money?
« on: Jul 29, 2012, 09:56 PM »
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." - Matthew 6:24

How can one know/show he is serving God and not money?

How can one know/show he is serving God and not money?

Here's what comes to mind that for me, if you do ALL of these, you're doing your good deeds for the Lord:

1. Practice Tithing
2. Use money for the betterment of God's works/words.
3. Help others in need but when you help others, don't do it for fame or honor or favor; do it discreetly.
4. Strive for success but not at the expense of anyone, and not for yourself.
5. Staying humble.

Please let me answer in the reverse:

You are serving MONEY and not God when you do things such as these:

- lend money at 20% a month
- market in a deceitful manner to gain customers
- you pay your employees below minimum wage while declaring billions in profits
- you spend 90% of your pork barrel for personal wants
- you click your own Adsense ads
- you help in propagating scams/deceitful marketing/sales/investments just to earn your commission

Nevertheless, you can always return to God anytime and move away from the above practices forever...

How can one know/show he is serving God and not money?

If you prioritize earthly prosperity than spiritual wealth, then you're serving money.

Yung bang you devout almost all your efforts to earn money, leaving God with the leftovers of your time and strength.

But God doesn't want His children to suffer poverty, He blesses those who lives a RIGHTEOUS life.

Quote
Psalm 112:1-3 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Blessed State of the Righteous
1 Praise the LORD!
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
Who delights greatly in His commandments.

2 His descendants will be mighty on earth;
The generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches will be in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.

Work honestly and don't just ask for the Lord's blessing.
Quote
Proverbs 10:4 : Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.

You know you are serving God by following his will...money per se is not bad, it helps you with your daily needs sa family mo and may natutulungan ka pang iba, for me money is a good slave and a very bad master.  :D

...money per se is not bad..

Agree! Sabi nga sa bible verse na ito..

Quote
1 Timothy 6:10 New International Version (NIV)
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

...ang "love of money" ang masama, hindi ang mismong "money". :)

How do you show?

Show? I thought serving God in secret is better than showmanship to others. God can look into a person heart and doesn't need to rely on sight alone

****
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.  Matthew 6:1-34

Love and HELP your neighbor, give to charity.

"Depart from me, YOU who are CURSED, into the ETERNAL FIRE prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink. I was a stranger and YOU did not invite me in, I needed clothes and YOU did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and YOU did not look after me." - Matthew 25:42

Love and your family and relatives.

"But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, HE HAS DENIED THE FAITH AND WORSE THAN AN UNBELIEVER" - 1 Timothy 5:8

In my small way i make a point to help an orphanage and i also make it a point to lend a helping hand to my family and extended family. In my small way. AND SMALL WAY, I THINK IS MUCH BETTER THAN ZERO, NOTHING.

Let's exercise bro. bo's quote above in an extreme situation.

How about we rob banks, gamble, sell drugs, employ prostitutes, scam people, and give all earnings to the needy, the church, non profit organizations, missionaries, etc.

Does the "purpose" still make the money good? :p

You should know the answer, it should NOT be taken as literal as extreme, if you take it as literal then there is something wrong with YOUR mind ;)

When it says - It's raining cats and dogs - It's not implying dogs and cats are falling from the sky. As same as when Samsung s3 says - it's design for humans - doesn't imply that some of their phones are for non-humans.

Come on your smarter than that ...

Ok i'll revise my "smart question"  and make it even "smarter."  :hihi:

If i am a modern day robin hood, am i evil according to bro. bo's statement regarding the "purpose?"

In Philosophy it says 'The result DOES NOT justifies the deed'

Come on man you are smarter than that, test it yourself but im sure you wouldn't dare because you know it's not right. We do not have to be literalist.
