Hi, I'm currently a graduating student taking up the course BS Business Administration Major in Finance
I just worrying about whether I can get employed in the workforce once I graduate or whether I will be one of the unemployed or my job doesn't match my course

I am hearing in the news that there are so much unemployed and there are also some whose course doesn't match their current jobs
and i have read here:
http://www.manilatimes.net/index.php/news/top-stories/14138-ched-to-close-nursing-2-other-courses-next-year
http://www.sunstar.com.ph/bacolod/business/2012/01/26/phase-out-oversubscribed-courses-proposed-202643
That Business Administration is oversubcribed

Though my professors have been saying that some of the graduates in our school are in good companies with good pay and some of those people are just the average and below average students
Pero parang ayokong maniwala kasi its too good to be true eh, average student lang din kasi ako, naiisip ko kasi there is too much sugar coating in their words

So what are the skills and attributes that employers mostly look for in fresh graduates?
How to be an applicant that will stand out from the rest?
What are important? grades? skills? being active in orgs? seminars? or something else?

Later on, So much will depend on your work
experience.

3. This also means you really have to be commited on the kind of career you want to pursue, this entails passing on job opportunities that offers
a high starting salary but relatively no career growth or is not align to your chosen career path.

4. Get all the licensure exams, trainings or certifications you can get.

5. If all else fails, last option is to consider other career paths. Although you might need to take new courses/trainings for this.

Don't forget your parents, balance your time in everything you do... Work won't take care of you when your sick but your family will do. Aim higher, set your goals, don't be afraid to fail for it is part of maturity process. Live and Love at the same time. Find a girl that will be a partner, a friend, a lover and most of all a business partner.. Always trust God for all the things you will do. Pray Hard, it works.

Employers always look for competence and experience.
Good conversational English is preferred. (please correct your thread title, by the way)

A growing number of employers are employing cost-cutting measures and therefore are hiring multi-taskers.
unemployment is inevitable... you must prepare for it and should promptly take measures to avoid such a circumstance. go into business and/or get employed in online job sites like oDesk.com

maraming opportunities sa paligid natin. you just have to look around and take bold steps to grab a piece of this pie.
Good luck!

Just keep in mind that its not the smart ones that usually gets ahead, its the ones who dared to do things differently.

In getting a good job, skills and experience does matter. While your still a student, get involved in activities that will give you experience. (ex. be a working student, volunteer, MLM, etc). Create a winning resume and an enthusiastic attitude during interviews. Dress well. Be confident. And don't be afraid to fail.

Character is the most important. One should always be willing to learn. One should not be contended with mediocrity. Find a job that you love, and the rest will be in place. Don't be scared of the unemployment news you heard, I heard that as well during my time, separate yourself from the herd and do something that will make you stand out in the crowd.

--share ko lang, when i applied for my first job, ang target ko that time is makapasok lang sa trabaho.. ayun nakapasok nga.. then nagsipag ako, nagpasikat ako sa boss ko, tapos nag set ako sa utak ko na dapat in 6 months time ma promote ako.. after 8 months na promote ako.. what i'm pointing out is, nasa diskarte lang yan kung pano mo makukuha yung gusto mo, gusto mong posisyon at gusto mong ibabayad sayo ng kumpanya...

>may talent sa proofreading or knows somebody who does.  Seriously, after you get hired, you will have to put pen onto paper or use a compi to generate paperwork of some sort. You will have your name on that paper. I am already this old and I still get hit with stuff like that. People will get distracted with the errors and will be in a surly mood to try to get the content of what you wrote. It would help if you will write a baby thesis relevant to the field you want to get into. Cite that crap in your CV. All the research you have to do will help get you in a state of preparedness.

Syempre dapat magaling ka mag english both written and oral. As early as now develop mo na itong skills na to.

sometimes a little lying can help.

take the risk. it's worth it.

How to be an applicant that will stand out from the rest?
What are important? grades? skills? being active in orgs? seminars? or something else?

What they're looking for is a problem solver. They want someone who can help them solve their problems. They want a person of value.

Remember WII-FM? It does not stand for "What's in it FOR me" but should be "What's in it FROM me." Focus on what you can give not what you can get.

Jim Rohn said, "Don't bring your need to the marketplace, bring your skill. if you don't feel well, tell your doctor but not the marketplace. If you need money, go to your bank but not the marketplace."

So to standout from other applicants by studying the company that you want to work for. What do they do? What is the company's vision? What are the problems they are solving? What are the products and services they are providing to the public? How can you help increase the value of the company? Are your skills match what they need? Etc.

Know the answers on these questions because it will give you confidence during your interview and the interviewer/s will sense it. Read the book "The Magic of Thinking Big" for more ideas like "look smart because it will help you think smart."

--you can develop your self confidence by attending seminars, leadership trainings.. tapos ugaliin mong makipag usap sa mga big boss, kahit yung tipong kwentuhan lang.. ganun...

--familiar ka ba sa "WHO MOVED MY CHEESE" try mo po siya panoorin or basahin..

If you have 1-2 years left in school at you have extra money to take other subjects/course, why not try learning a new language. Examples are Nihonggo or Mandarin. Meron demand sa mga ganyan ngayon kahit papano and I think ok since meron ka pa oras unlike when you are already working. Take the certification exams if this applies to your current degree. Time(lots of free time) is on your side.
