I'm sorry but my face is red. I pulled up a chart of what I thought was the PSE Index from the WSJ website  and made my comment based on it. Turns out that the correct symbol is PH:PSEI, and not PSE.

Please disregard that post because it was obviously wrong.(I don't even trade stocks anymore, fyi, after I made the shift to forex).

PS: I've now deleted my post and will now retreat to my lair, with my head hanging low...

^sayang di ko pa nabasa dinelete mo na? sana edit na lang, honest mistake lang naman yun. :D

as for me, i'm, bullish till the end of the year, with minor corrections/sideway movements in between. just basing it in the overall local economic condition, it seems everything's looking up. but as one broker puts it, outlook must be with cautious optimism. :)

.....so bauer, I take it you're neutral?

 i have 2 positions ready to sell once my price is reach (within 5-10% variance). nothing to buy at this time.

what is your basis of buying or not buying a stock?

or maybe you are looking for a price that is as cheap as 2007-2008 prices where PE is very low, all stocks are bargain. but that is global recession time, will it happen again and too soon in the philippines?

meron pa namang mga stocks ngayun sa PSE that performs well in terms of profit and trades less than 10 of its PE. isn't that appealing?

what is your basis of buying or not buying a stock?

1. good track record of revenues and profit
2. good management
3. moat - controls more than 50% of the market and/or good competitive advantage
4. low debt or good debt leverage
5. P/E ratio and forward P/E ratio
6. free float
7. daily volume / value turn over
8. free cash flow and cash flow management in general
9. growth strategy

bakit konti lang bumili that time? di sana marami ang kumita ng malaki.  honestly speaking, it is hard to know when the next market will crash big time or the market will rise spectacularly until it is too late to make a move.  pero pinakamadali sa lahat ang pag aralan if the stock merits a value for money. want to know? study the books of benjamin graham.

PE ratio of less than 10 is just one of the parameters i use in determining the true value of the stock.  its not the only one.

^OK bauer, can you comment on this kind of analysis:

MWC

data:
year     profit(M)     ROE      earnings/debt
2007 = 2,597         21%          29%
2008 = 2,788         19%          16%
2009 = 3,231         19%          15%
2010 = 3,979         20%          19%
2011 = 4,266         19%          13%

business wise - durable business, no competition, product/service is long lasting (unless we can live without water).

at present price of 25:
- P/E (based on 2011 profit) = 14.
- P/E (based on projected 2012 profit) = 9.

projected 2012 profit = extrapolation of growth profit each year, or ratio and proportion of 1Q 2011 vs. 1Q 2012 (1Q 2011 = 817M / 1Q 2012 = 1,342M).

then my analysis ENDS there.
conclusion: buy for MWC for 2012 should be less than 25, the cheaper the better.

Should i go deeper than that?

RDS,

i think you should make a depeer scan the same way TSO made it in his own thread at the stocks sub topic folder.

what makes MWC wonderful is the projected investment in sewerage treatment plant in the next 10 years starting last year.  If you will study the concession contract with MWC and our government, all their investments MUST BE RECOUP with profit at the end of their contract.

example if MWC will say the concession needs 30 or 50 billion more and the government agrees, imagine how much profit MWC will earn from it?

Your outlook in analysis is still short term and narrow, expand it like a mile so you can have a greater grasp of the whole business.  remember, you cannot capture everything that falls in the faucet.
