The Money is in your List! - Affiliate Marketing
« on: Jun 06, 2012, 10:56 PM »
Hello guys,

I would like to talk a bit about list building. If you are seeking for a solid way to make money online, then you need to start commiting yourself to Internet Marketing.

Just imagine this:
You have a list of 500 people (really not hard at all to achieve, beginners goal) interested in a niche in particular, let's say BodyBuilding techniques.

One day you send a massive email to all these people promoting a product related to this niche, at a value of $40.
You write this email with a catchy title to call for attention, a nice and juicy body with your cloaked link right on it for your subscribers to click on.

From these 500 people, 200 enter the email you sent, 100 click the link you shared, and 50 purchase the product.

That's $2000 made with only one email sent, with a small list of subscribers.
Imagine if you have a list of 2000 people interested in that niche.

Are you getting the picture? that's the exact POWER of Internet Marketing. The statistics given in the example above are the most usual, according to the interest of the prospects in the niche you work on. It may vary but it use to be in that way.

To your success!
Marce

Is 40% (200 out of 500) "readthrough" and 50% (100 out of 200) clickthrough rate realistic in email lists? I have no experience building lists but I kind of find that too good to be true. In your experience, what's the AVERAGE one can realistically expect assuming you have a good sales pitch with all the catchy pics and catchy lines and all the bells and whistles that make a good email marketing campaign?

Thanks.

The percentage is very relative as always, but the aim is always to provide quality content to have a responsive list of subscribers, if you get to that point, that clickthrough rate is really possible.

But let's be honest, people with experience in the field will get to that point, because they already made hundreds of tests with their lists, and found out what did work for them and what didn't.

If you are just starting, you can expect a 15-20% clicktrough rate, and that's pretty amazing equaly, taking in mind the example I made in the first post.

If you work with honesty, provide good quality content to your subscribers, without spamming too much, answering their questions and being active, serious and professional, you really can expect that response from your list.

This is just like any business, a poorly developed work will take you nowhere, fighting for the dimmes.

Cheers!

Why not tell us about your numbers? From your own experience, the result of your own list marketing...

Sorry for the delay in the response,
My actual percentage vary between 35% - 40% clickthrough rate, not bad at all but I know that I have a lot of testing to do before I can increment that number.

I know people that work with me that is getting the 50% clickthrough rate, that's why I mentioned it. It is totally possible to achieve this, but again, experience will drive you to get this results, you cannot expect this from the beginning.

I hope that helps!
Kind regards.

First things first, how do you make a list? I mean, I know it involves a squeeze page and a free product but can you tell any good suggestions on building my own list?

I would daresay you shouldn't let yourself be limited to those cheesy squeeze pages that we see everywhere. There should be other ways but the key thing, I think, is that it should be suitable to the niche you are in. My personal advice is to stay away from the MMO niche. The problem with many list-building gurus is that they promote mostly their own MMO squeeze pages such that it only becomes a network of squeeze pages trying to promote their network of squeeze pages. All targeting MMO noobs.

Try penetrating niches that identify a real-life need. For example, try putting up one of those DIY solar power websites and squeeze email addresses from people by offering a short tutorial on how to assemble your own solar panels, etc. etc....

Of course the challenge here is finding that responsive niche that will match your skill level and enthusiasm. This is what I'm finding really difficult.

List building is no doubt "one" of the better ways that you can do to make money in affiliate marketing (or it could be your own products). However, it is not the best as there are still other aspects of email marketing that you have to learn before people can trust you or your brand. This includes your message content, your marketing strategies (how you present the products?), and many others. An email that just contains a sales message is worst than traditional banner ads which certainly won't easily convert.

Plus, consumers nowadays are very smart with regards to affiliate products even if you cloak your URL or use CTA banners. The best way to use your email marketing campaign is to direct your readers to your site's content pages, mostly review pages of the product or services that you promote.

For me, content is still the best way and list building is just an alternative. Several studies have confirmed that review pages are much more essential than any other tools such as email blasts.

"The money is in the list."

That's something you've probably heard while researching marketing online.
Building a mailing list is what it means though. You need to create a highly targeted list of people genuinely interested in what you have to say. Respond to them and take care of them. When you build enough trust, you'll be able to sell products all of the time!

A great way to start is to offer your own eBook for free about whatever your niche is.

Of course, if you have a list of emails of targeted clients then you can earn really good money but before that you need to learn it first.

I very much agree with this thread that the money is on the list. i'm new in affiliate marketing, and during the course of my search, i saw the blog of a super affiliate named john chow (maybe he's familiar to you, he said he was a contestant in the Ultimate Fighting Championship :) ). His business model puts emphasis on list building, because according to him its the way of building customer base. in addition, he also said that strong businesses are built on repeat customers, and that's what made him earn $500,000 on CB. you can visit his website at johnchow.com.

just sharing. hehe. more power.
