Well, technically you can't compare them.
With mutual funds, you basically pay someone to invest
for you.

So logically, if you have the time and expertise, go
for investing directly in the stock market, otherwise
go for MF or UITF

Tama si Mxherr. Both are different, so you can't actually compare them. But the bottom line here is if you still don't have any experience or idea regarding stock market, then better to start investing in MF. Pag may knowledge ka na about stock market, then that's the time to enter this kind of investment.

Para sa akin, may konting (actually mas marami relatively) MUTUAL FUNDS, then meron konting STOCK MARKET.

Kasi pag walang oras, hirap din bantayan ang galaw ng stocks eh.

I think there are other questions you need to ask yourself before asking "kung saan maganda mag-invest".  First ask yourself, "What is my goal if I invest XXX peso amount? What is my target income? When do I want to realize that income" and then ask "How much amount of my investment am I willing to risk"?  Once you have answered those question, that's the only time our PMT house experts can provide you with a more concrete reply kung saan magandang mag-invest.  In fact, there are more options other than MF and SM.

I think this is to correct way to address it moving forward.

Stocks/Mfs, real estate, business are only vehicles. When you know your Point A and Point B, the appropriate vehicle will follow and their corresponding risk should be known.

if you are new to stock i suggest get the services of professional manager and be in mutual funds.this is just a reminder for a smallfish like us going to stocks ,99.9% you will lose your capital.if your capital is small you will take unnecessary risk just to make a good return.transaction cost alone will decimate your capital, you'll pay high commissions and taxes everytime you buy and sell.you will be inclined to trade rather than invest to chase big returns on your small capital.you will always rely on capital appreciation(very volatile)and ignore minuscule dividends on a very small capital.

sorry theedge but i have to disagree with you assertion... doing something (whatever it is) you don't understand is 99.9% bound for failure.. it is much riskier to let other people, may it be the so-called "professional managers", to take care of your assets.. when investing, make sure you are in control and you fully understand the investment's terms, features and attributes...
