Investing is BORING!
« on: May 11, 2012, 12:55 AM »
That's according to RK's rich dad.

these recent days i'm bored of so many things:
bored of 5-day/9-hour job (i'm burned out, paulit-ulit na trabaho).
bored of looking at PSE website (it doesn't make any difference).
bored of reviewing my past and planned expenses/budget (walang ka challenge2).
bored of looking at my stocks portfolio (still not looking good).
bored at reading and posting in PMT...

is it a sign that i'm "IN" on investing or I just lost enthusiasm in investing?

do you agree that "Investing is boring"?

Nakakarinig ako s mga ibang tao minsan na may mga notion na investing is boring if it's just a low amount of money, say, less than 30k or even way lower.

I was just shaking my head, kasi sa akin di nman importante kung magkano ang investment, ang mahalaga ay kahit maliit ang ininvest ay alam ng taong yun ang direksyon na kanyang pupuntahan, kesa mapunta sa wala ang perang pinaghirapan.

Ya, ganun din sentiment ko, kakatamad tingnan lalo na kung ipit ka...thats whats happening to me now....

Pero kung kumikita naman iba yun feling...thats the roller coaster emotion youve got to handle sa investing, specifically the equities.

While while my non-equities protfolio is over 90% of my total portfolio, on the look out for better rates on bonds is quite challenging, specially when some bonds mature and dont really know where to place the funds next.

You are not IN RDS, you sounds more you are on your way OUT.  Stop and re-focus again.  You are into investments because you want a rewarding retirement for yourself and your family.  That's your End Goal.  Investment is never boring. in fact, its a challenge to remain focus on investment.

advise ko lang, try to get a social life.  meet your friends at mag inuman kayo, try to get a hobby. try to get into light sports and do it occasionally. exercise regularly. communicate with your family more often (bug their lives!).

of course, everything in moderation.  Last tip: PUZZLE YOUR MIND!

Sa job konting tiis nalang, if your plan 2 years ago pushes through, you have more or less 1 more year to bear the boredom at work.

once resigned, you will then have the time to pursue your real passion in life & maybe look for something more challenging & exciting to do.

try finding a hobby for the meantime to overcome boredom. pwedeng bagay, hayop, tao, laro, sining or paglilikha.

i'm planning to retire in my company before 40 years of age (almost 3+ years from now). i've been working here for almost 7 years. i'm not aiming for hundreds of millions, but a couple of million will do.

i have a "quite good" job here abroad. kaso lang na-late yata ako nagdecide mag work abroad. i should have worked here earlier...then save...then invest, then sana mas malaki na investment ko.

previously kasi i was very eager to make it on my own, without the knowledge, but with too much passion. i left my work in makati (consulting) to try venture for small business in the province. laking awa...nalugi. for almost 3 years umasa ako sa parents ko (with my wife n children pa) kasi di ako makahanap work. buti na lang nakabalik ako sa manila then later here abroad.

and right now i'm learning to invest. i'm reading everything to gain more knowledge.

di rin pala basta may passion ka lang sa business or investment. you most be knowledgeable. you must be open to new ideas.

ok lang din pala maging employee. as long as you learn while you work, and invest what you earn from the company...wag lang mag stay too long and hinder yourself to try other ventures.

kaya wag tayong magmadali sa negosyo, wag din late...TIMING IS EVERYTHING

@bauer, thanks bro for the advice...from now on i'll just let my portfolio grow by itself, i guess watching it everyday will not help, besides my plan is long term.

maybe what makes me bored is not having some physical fitness here. i have had my 1 month vacation last month and i engaged myself into playing basketball with my friends very often. pero dito sa work place wala na. bihira kasi ang basketball court dito. kailangan mo talagang sadyain, and my co-workers are not interested also on sports.

@BP buti na lang ni-remind mo ako na may na post akong ganyan. medyo disappointed lang ako kasi medyo di ko ma hit target ko. i may extend at least 2 years from the original plan. not to mention na nasilaw tayo dito sa mga offer ng PMT investees.

thank you all folks...i think that it's time to re-visit my plans again...

investing is boring?  It depends your purpose for investing.  As i said long ago, investing is like tending a garden.  Your efforts will show very little on a day to day basis, but after a few years, it should be bountiful!  The farther into the future your vision, the more easily your daily decisions will be...especially when you're in equities.

Myself, i'm looking if at investments that would benefit my future GRANDCHILDREN.  Mind you, wala pa akong anak sa high school.

The most common cause of depression is when people don't reach their goals or expectations.  And so, my best recommendation is to set smaller, attainable goals first.   Build up the momentum of reaching goals, then slowly set bigger ones.

A survey a few years ago ask people what they wish for the most.  And the result was not more money.  Overwhelmingly, people opt for GOOD HEALTH.  And so, make goals for this end.

About a year ago, i needed surgery for a joint problem.  i was so depressed cuz of the risks.  i didn't have the surgery, but chose exercise instead.  I started with two push-ups, which I found so hard then!

Now, a year later, I've got a fully equipped gym, am stronger than i've ever been in more than ten years.

And best of all...I NO LONGER NEED SURGERY!

Focus on what is important to you.  Hang on to your longterm dreams.  And love your family.  That will make it all worthwhile!

Well I can say I'm having the same dogma right now. I also had my portfolio going in deep ocean for more than a week now. About a month ago, while taking my vacation jan sa Pinas I have this too much enthusiasm while seeing my portolio rose to 29.91% gain in only a matter of 2 weeks. Then when I return from vacation, things went the other way. From 29.91%, my gain is going lower and lower everyday until it was trimmed down to 13.67% as of yesterday. Although gain parin naman parang nakakapanghina at nakakatanggal ng gana kapag inisip mo how playful market it. Though I still have this enthusiasm inside me. What I'm doing now is, I don't look at the market that much. Then divert my attention on other things. Basa basa ng mga jokes and threads dito sa PMT to lossen up a bit. Then play sports after work (I just played badminton last night and it somehow relieved some stress). Then tonight and monday eh bowling naman. Pahinga ng tuesday then bowling ulit ng Wednesday. Today, I'm having this positive vibes that the market can recover again for the coming days.

Looking it at short term, talagang nakaka bored when you are viewing ang isang portfolio.
What I usually do is Il review it in semi-annul basis para makita ko if how can i improve it.
- Did i accumulate more assets ba?
- What other productive activity can i do instead of  just bored myself to death.

-----
bored of 5-day/9-hour job (i'm burned out, paulit-ulit na trabaho).
Why not find ways to improve your skills sets, parang self improvement or self development.
For example, i just attendeed a great Jack Canfield event that give me a different perspective about my job

bored of looking at PSE website (it doesn't make any difference).
I dont see the "productivity" of time by "peeping tom" the PSE
bored of reviewing my past and planned expenses/budget (walang ka challenge2).
Why not raise up the % rate na pwede mo idagdag sa portfolio mo and tweek your budget para me konting challenge.
Been doing this lately in my budget and I found out I can purchase a small farmland sa province , so i can experiment yung rice project namin ni misis.
We agreed ni misis na delay muna yung isang Doodaz so we can proceed with this project

bored of looking at my stocks portfolio (still not looking good).
I dont see the "productivity" of time by "peeping tom" a portfolio unless its your review period
bored at reading and posting in PMT...
Ummm.. No comment

I'm getting bored na rin po pero iniisip ko na lang na mapapadali ang pag invest ko (mutual fund + properties) kung mag stay ako sa corporate job ko. In effect, mas mapapaaga ang pag retire ko from corporate world.

Fyi, ofw po ako. :)
