Hi, Prospera. Here's a good case study that seems to show how these things come together in the SEO sense:

http://www.seomoz.org/blog/facebook-twitters-influence-google-search-rankings

links + likes + tweets = better chances of ranking higher and staying there. In the past, if you look at a spam site's link profile, most of the stuff you'll see are mechanically-generated links from mostly unrelated sites. That was how easy it is to rank back then. You create a hundred well-optimized websites, hire someone to build links for you and chances are, that's enough to give you a healthy cash flow to pay for your efforts. Google smartened up and looked closely at the profiles of legitimate sites and probably realized it will make it harder for spammers to do their thing if they included more social signals (likes, tweets, plus, etc). Brilliant move on their part as that effectively changes the game as it has become a truly viral marketing game in the sense that you need to come up with crafty gimmicks to become "word of mouth". Well, this approach is now what many, included me, are trying to game. :) hehehe

Yup but spammers are always one step ahead. SEO and Google will always be a CAT and MOUSE game. right now we can buy FB Likes, Tweets and also Google+ . So in the end, Google will penalize overly LIKED and overly PLUSED websites.

See the pattern.

Dati

1. blog comments will make you number 1, after a few months google discounted those links.

2. article directories will make you number 1, after a few months google discounted those links.

3. blog networks will make you number 1, after a few months google PENALIZED those links and the website owners.

THIS WILL BE THE FUTURE

4. social signals will make you number 1, after a few months google WILL discount or PENALIZE those links.

in the end, GOOGLE is killing SEO so that you will not be able to be #1 on search for free and in the end you will be forced to use ADWORDS. What a great strategy from the greedy search engine giant. in the end, small business websites will be on PAGE 2 and what will be left on PAGE 1 will be AMAZON, EHOW and all those big ass CONTENT FARMS which google treats as AUTHORITY SITES.

i just hate companies that are shady, too late for me to find out that Google is one of those. Anyway, i am putting up all my excess energy (due to hatred he he he) on gaming the Google system. As a revenge, i will be gaming the stupid Panda and Penguin with my own nifty little tricks.

I have already found a small bug on the system which i am exploting so that the Big G will rank me.

Believe it or not, I actually understand why Google had to do what they did and are doing. I actually find the search results cleaner and better. A lot of "transactional keywords" are now giving more suitable results (e-commerce sites) and not fake review sites that only want to get affiliate sales commissions and Adsense clicks. Imagine typing in "paper shredders" and finding 3 ugly and badly written review sites at the top of the results probably owned by the same person who bought 3 exact match domain variations and filled it with article rewrites that say exactly the same nonsense. I know because I did that.

The problem with what Google did is that there were a lot of collateral damage. Even good sites were affected and it seems they are willing to accept some bad PR within the SEO industry for the benefit of the majority (search engine users). Of course there are still some chinks in the search algo but all in all I think they did okay. I remember a time when then entire first page (10 results) for "electric treadmill" was filled by wordpress blogs with exact-match domains. I got one of mine up to the second page but stopped there as I usually prefer niches that have less "like-minded" competitors. All it took to beat someone back then was to have more time to build more links and I didn't. I really found that funny because the spamming was so blatant that the first 3 pages were full of wordpress blogs about electric treadmills! hehehe.

Go to Bing and Google and search "electric treadmill". Imagine yourself as an honest to goodness person looking to buy a treadmill. Now, which search results will you appreciate more?

Honestly, if I owned Google, I'd do the same thing and blow all those Wordpress Splogs to smithereens. Technology moves quite fast. In the future, search engines will be smarter a la AI. Even now, some geek in a university somewhere is thinking up ways to do that. Think neural networks that are able to react and adapt faster than Panda and Penguin updates. I'm assuming Google already has some basic prototype working somewhere in Googleplex (have you heard they have a driver-less car going around some city?). Hehehe. It will be harder to game that. But then again, even HAL1000 or that Eagle Eye was outwitted by humans... ;)

I don't really see anything wrong with giving more weight to e-commerce sites for transactional keywords or searches that asks for reviews of this and that. Most review sites that I made are fakes. I don't really have the resources to buy and review all those paper shredders and binders for the benefit of search engine users. As for e-How well, I guess that's Google choice. I suspect there's some politics involved (there always is). Some guy from Google knows some guy who owes some guy from e-how and the likes. Hehehe. Just kidding. I have no idea why Google likes e-how. I used to use that to spam searches but that's their prerogative. They own the biggest search engine in the world. They can do what they want. ;)

Google will not kill itself nor will it destroy SEO. The game will just keep changing. Facebook isn't the future of Internet marketing. It will play a part but it will not replace Google.

Done for the night. Night po!

Im still wating for a more polished search results because for some keywords, Google is full of sh*t on its results. More sh*t than before i guess.

I just hate the way Google favors Amazon links and Sulit.com.ph links (for local search), E-how, Livestrong, Ezinearticles, etc.

Anyway, in the end MONOPOLY is not good. its like Google is playing with our livelihood, one day you are a rich kid then suddenly some Matt Cunts guy gets posessed by who knows what kind of spirit and he decided to change the algorithm and bam, we become beggars overnight.

Kung walang monopoly perhaps it would only affect 50% or less of our income. I hope the Federal Trade Commission becomes successful in getting Googles Ass for ANTI-TRUST case.

That Google monopoly is partly our fault. If we stopped using Google so much, I doubt they'd be where they are right now. It isn't as if we don't have other choices, right? I've been using duckduckgo and bing for my personal use ever since Penguin. I use Google for work. ;-) Well, I can't believe I'm going to say this but I think John Chow is right all along. Hehehe. It was really a blessing that Google deindexed him years back. He's way ahead of the curve in terms of making money without relying on Google. I'm now bent on building my own email list. Anybody here has any tips? :)

yep i guess John Chow is right. right now, i would be focusing on making money online without relying on Google. We cant really put the fate of our online business on Google. Google can never be trusted.

Kaya dapat talaga DIVERSIFY.

Tsaka dapat ma-crack na natin yang pesting PENGUIN na yan.

Hi, folks!

I've taken to promoting and using duckduckgo more these past couple of months. They are taking a very clever approach to search results and I personally like the results they give me in my own searches. I just read an article this morning that DDG is actually doing well and may become a good competitor to the big G in the long run. I'd like to see that happen. Wouldn't you? :)

http://searchengineland.com/could-duckduckgo-be-the-biggest-long-term-threat-to-google-118117

a little disclosure though: a lot of my sites are ranking well with DDG. hehehe.

It's still about links, guys! I'm seeing some nice developments with my experiments. Will share my new insights when I'm done.

I only do manual backlinking, guest-posting, links exchanges, etc. I've stopped using software generated links or any of those automated article re-writing and submitting.

from what I've heard dito sa penguin update... there is such a thing na as overSEO-ing your site. so ang parating sermon ngayon ay "Content is king". malaki daw maitutulong kung maikokonek yung author, through gugel+... pero hindi pa ako expert... hindi pa nga ako kumikita eh. haay.

sa experiment ninyo sir can you see some improvements using "manual blog commenting" ?.

with regards to guest posting, it is of course very effective but also one of the slowest backlinking methods.

manual blog commenting is a bit faster but im not sure kung may epekto pa ito after the penguin updates.

I don't do blog commenting as well. Maybe you should do that experiment and share your results back here. :)
