My investment strategy
« on: Jan 16, 2012, 12:24 AM »
Good day PMT gurus. I would like to solicit your opinion regarding my investment strategy. I'm 23 years old and currently working as an IT professional abroad. It's my dream to have my own business someday, in the Philippines of course, and become my own boss. That's why I'm saving my money for it. However, I thought that I can fast track the saving process. Thus, I'm planning to invest my earnings and make it grow. Hopefully in the next 5 years I would have grown my money enough to put up my dream business.

This is how I will divide my portfolio:

savings - 20%
low-risk fixed income securities - 30 %
equity fund - 50%

I'm planning to apply to BDO's EIP para automatically na madedebit sya from my savings after I remit the money monthly to my bank account in the Philippines. I'm keeping my investment for a minimum of 3-5 years to minimize the risk on the equity fund.

As I'm keeping my investment for quite a long period of time, I'm tempted to just divide my portfolio to 80% equity fund and 20% savings. Pero sabi nga nila, do not put all your eggs in one basket that's why i opted for the portfolio above. I don't want my hard earned money to be put to waste so i really want to do this right.  :D :D so what do you think experts?

your young at 23 so there's no harm in investing 50% of your savings in an equity fund.  Actually, it is not aggressive nor conservative.  Ang concern ko lang is your short time frame.  If you prefer a 50 to 80% equity fund investment, i think your timeframe should be at least 10 years or more so you have a bigger chance of realizing a nice return.

wow, 23y.o.!  :rakenrol:

on the contrary, u might be exposing your funds to more risk, since equities are exposed to market fluctuations/global financial market volatility, day in/day out.

just warning u of what possibly lies ahead.

if u really want to do this right & if u want to go thru the fast track lane, u must learn about trading stocks (or other instruments) & trade on your own.

if u do it 'right', u have a guaranteed bright future ahead of u.
Good luck!

This is how I will divide my portfolio:

savings - 20%
low-risk fixed income securities - 30 %
equity fund - 50%

Good Plan.

As i have no intention of living here for that long.
My plan is a little bit faster than yours.

Sequential plan.

Step 1
80% for the next 5 months goes to equity (PSE)

Step 2
80% for the next 5 months goes to Mutual Fund.

Step 3
40% goes to savings & 40 % goes to start up capital for the next 5 months

Step 4.
20% goes to Mutual Funds, 20% goes to Savings, 20% goes to Training/Seminar & 20% becomes cash in hand till the last few months.

Step 5.
Go home.

deadline oriented approach, more risk necessary.
It is more important to know where you are going than to get there quickly. Do not mistake activity for achievement.

Come on guys, no offence but this is an investment thread right?
No one jumps on a pool filed with sharks without knowing the pool is filed with sharks. Nobody throws money in the stock market without knowing the stock market.

Thats for personal development/business stuff. thats why its last.
Sir Vicces got it right.

@raytave, if your planning on staying on being an expact for the long haul that plan would be fine. and safer.

Hmmm.. "knowing" to what level?
One of the most easiest to start in investing is actually going to stock market, once you have a minimum amount to invest and can open a broker account and can do a click buy/sell button.

But the question is, are many profitable in doing it?
So probably this will separate the boys (newbies) and the professionals (sharks)..

its a figure of speech.
Im not stating that their are newbies or professional.
Im merely stating that one should not jump onto something without knowing what happens when he lands.

More like "look before you jump"

Well, experience is the best teacher.

A plan is just a plan. It is merely ink, in paper.
I believe all plans will change given the circumstances are different.

Yup, I already understand its a figure of speech.

More like "look before you jump"
Well, some had look and jump on the bandwagon of stock market,  because of the "potential" returns. Apparently,  when they are on "look" out mode nobody explain to them or they dont have full understanding of the risk.

that's also what i thought. kaso parang it's too long already. hehe. thanks for the input bro.

ito rin yung iniisip ko dati as opposed to putting my money on UITFs and Mutual Funds. I know the basics of stock trading. However, i don't think that's enough to beat the market. Actually i might consider a certain percentage of my portfolio for stock trading for the purpose of having a benchmark of my stock picks against my equity fund.  :D

Sa totoo lang gusto ko talaga maging expert sa stock trading both technical and fundamental analysis. i just don't know where to start.  :hihi:
