Why limit your self to one mentor? The more successful people you talk to, the more things you learn. Just make sure that the successful people you talk to are generous of their knowledge without expecting anything in return. Learn by osmosis.

if the company is small enough that may work. if the company is multinational that may not be possible unless he's close to the top. if he was, he probably won't be here.

i wanted to get Larry Ellison as my mentor but he was a bit busy. :)

Sino nga ba si Ellison?

It is good to find a mentor who has an ulterior motive to motivate you.

Since you're just starting out, I take it that you don't have that much money to invest yet, and so you don't yet need investment savvy mentors ala Buffet or Lynch.

Since you're into IT, then you wouldn't need mentors like Sy or Lucio Tan.

And since the only way to get rich is by putting up your own business, find mentors in your line of work, better if they founded somewhat successful businesses, even if small.    As long as they seem to share your values.

Therefore, the nearest and most accessible mentor would be your own boss in your job.

akala ko boss nya si Ellison. and if boss nya nga that means nag-wo-work sya sa Oracle Philippines.

anyways, Ellison made it big because he has a very good software which is Oracle. Oracle bought other companies such as Sun Microsystems, Siebel etc. so whats the most simplest answer on how he was able to grow Oracle? just like M$ and IBM, they got software that people need. So if you can come out with that software that people need then you can make it big. Lahat naman ng owner/boss hard working and intelligent pero bakit yung iba mas malaki ang kita kesa sa iba, syempre nga sa benta ng products/services nila.

Actually, your best mentor is your boss in the company you work for.  Ask him what it is that he wants to accomplish in his company.  Ask how he became so successful.  How he founded it, runs it, and what his vision is.  He will share it cuz he wants YOU to be as passionate as him...little does he know that you want to copy him eventually!

I think that's not as easy as said when done. We used to work treating our boss as boss. We have this invisible gap that makes us develop this relationship that will lead us to asking them something like that difficult. I can say this because for the past three bosses I worked for  we used to talk almost about work. We hardly get into personal matter like that.

Can you be one them? Can you be my mentor?

You're just 23 and you've had three bosses already?  Why?

Many people think about business and getting rich for two reasons.  One, cuz they're honestly planning their lives to get there, or two, they're just fantasizing, daydreaming usually while at work.  Those who really plan usually set realistic goals, like visualizing how to get rich in the field they are in, studying all the different departments of their company, chatting with friends in different departments, and talking to bosses and managers to get better educated.

Then there are those who just fantasize, dreaming of getting rich with real estate, with some fantasy invention, or putting up some fantasy megamillion company, and whose thoughts and questions are so distant from their present circumstances.

So, which is you?

As the saying goes, the devil is in the details.  If you honestly want to get successful, you'll go out of your way to talk to your boss , not to ask how to be successful or rich, but HOW IT IS TO BE A BOSS.

Cuz yoou'll never ever become rich if you cannot act like a boss.

Thanks, RP. I already resigned from Oracle last year and decided to take the plunge in real estate so I do have mentors in that field.

but how do i know if my plans or projections relating to financial freedom are realistic knowing that i'm only in the beginning or learning stage? It seems to me kasi ung mga may enough experience and knowledge lang ang naka gagawa ng maayos at realistic na plano at projections. I badly need some light here.

 :thankyou:

Well, you will never be able to compute it accurately.  Cuz economies and inflation is impossible to predict so many years into the future.

You're better off finding out what your really want to be.  Imagine yourself when you're 80 years old.  What would you want your children, grandchildren, and close friends say about you?  I doubt it is that you've made so much money.  But rather how good a person you were, how good you were in your field, how brave you were to try put up whatever business you will.  Focus on these, rather than how much money you will need to achieve financial freedom.
