Where to buy Bonds?
« on: Sep 03, 2011, 09:45 PM »
Where can I buy bonds now? What's the normal placement amount and yields? I hope there are high-quality bonds in the market.

I think the minimum nowadays is 1M...if not 5M. Returns are prolly around 5 to 6%..for 5yrs.

Alternatively..mag MF or UITF ka na lang.

Another option is a variable unit-linked life insurance policy, aka, VUL, which typically allows you to select the type of fund (e.g. 100% bonds) while offering you protection benefits. If you don't have 1M or 5M, your option is to go with pooled funds such as VUL, MF, or UITF. Plus, you take advantage of the scale that these funds have (some of them manage billions worth of bonds), and the skill of the fund managers (they typically have years of experience in dealing with bonds that they can fall back on).
Protect your savings and investment from getting wiped out in case of a heart attack, cancer, or a stroke. Be prudent and start your financial plan today!

Quite the contrary... in case there would be a financial  turmoil and BDO will be affected (as financial institutions are likely interconnected), investing on Tier 2 bonds may be very risky.  Tier 2 bonds is a form of subordinated debt; it has even lower priority than bank depositors.

We must try first to understand what Tier2 bonds are. And our banks in the country are not the same as in US or Europe. They are far more conservative.

It's on topic. You were talking of buying bonds, and someone else mentioned MF and UITF as an alternative if you don't have the minimum amount, and I pointed out VULs as an alternative too since all three MF, UITF, and VULs have bond funds.

Also, I would recommend looking at these:
List of Government Securities Dealers as of February 17, 2011 - these dealers trade in treasury bills and bonds
What are Treasury Bills - this has a listing of some banks with contact numbers of their treasury dealing departments
Protect your savings and investment from getting wiped out in case of a heart attack, cancer, or a stroke. Be prudent and start your financial plan today!

There are others who offer a fixed rate corporate bonds at 5, 7 and 10 years with different interest rates. I'd like to know if it is still subject to withholding tax? TIA :)
