Anybody here who have tried Odesk?
« on: Apr 19, 2011, 10:50 PM »
I am interested on becoming an Individual Contractor on Odesk.  But looking at the website, it seemed so taxing to learn, esp. when you have to take the Odesk Readiness Test so you can increase your job applications quota.

I need feedback re:

1. How reliable is Odesk in delivering jobs to both Hiring Managers and Contractors?
2. What is the usual mode of payment on Odesk?
3. What are your good and bad experiences on Odesk?

I did, but I never got employed because my resume is not that impressive. I think you have to build your reputation first by accepting the low paying jobs that they offer. I read in some forums before that there are Filipinos who are making money with oDesk, too bad no one replied to your post....

Hi there, Newbie here on this forum but I've been doing online jobs for 4 years now. I have done and still doing Odesk.
I started as a telemarketer way back 3 years ago.
The odesk exam is really super easy. It just makes sure that you understand the guidelines of Odesk. The other exams are OK, some are a bit challenging. The more exams you take the more impressive your profile will be. I got my 1st client from Odesk. We decided to work outside Odesk to save the client the additional charges. The payment system is usually through Paypal, but then it depends on your negotiation with the client. So I managed to convince my client to send my pay thru Xoom. I've gotten a lot of clients from Odesk but I still do not have any Odesk hours because we always work outside Odesk. There are a lot of clients who look for employees from odesk, and so it's a good venue. So far, no problems. Pay is good, clients are decent and kind. :cool2:

I'd like to share my experience in Odesk. I've been registered in odesk since 2009 but been active last april 2012 when I'm in maternity leave kasi need kumita while my hubby is working naman as an Architect.

Now, I have 7 clients/employer. From start, you have to complete your profile. Be competitive and attractive to the clients and bid. My first project was 10USD fixed rate. Medyo mababa pero dun magsstart yun till nag grow and I git 15 clients. When I computed my earnings from April till now. I got 900 USD for 2 months now! maliit pa yan compare sa ibang contractor basta marami kang skills. Minsan ibang clients long term basis or full time freelancer pag magaling ka di ka bibitawan. on going lang ang projects. I withdrawn a $100 weekly! Yes, that is weekly.

I'm an AutoCAD drafter. maraming job sa Odesk basta pasuk sa requirements nila at exam. Ok.. I wish makukuha ako ng potential clients and full time basis para pede na ko magresign. Now you can work at home with your kids pa.

Hope na inspired ko kayo..

Try nyo din ang:

www.elance.com
www.freelancer.ph
www.peoplehour.com
www.guru.com

Mga legit din yan.
Basta ok ang portfolio nyo at profile and be competitive sa cover letter nyo. makakuha din kayo projects.

Thanks!

Member din ako ng Odesk since 2010, kaya lang because of my work dito sa abroad, hindi ako naging pursigido dun. Last year nung mejo lumuwag ang time ko, I tried to apply sa mga Odesk jobs na alam kong kaya ko. I was hired in less than a week and made that project successfully.
Maganda ang systema ng Odesk and I would highly recommend it based on my experience.
After that project, hindi na ulit ako nag active sa Odesk hanggang ngayon kasi wala akong time. Busy sa work.

i have clients from http://www.freelancer.com/ and http://www.vworker.com/ before. They are legit sites. Also, accept low paying projects or bid at the lowest possible price para you can get testimonies. Basta bago ka pa lang, building your portfolio should be your concern.

Yes Odesk is a similar platform like freelancer.com . Its good too, So many projects to bid on. And I felt its easier to get projects at Odesk than Freelancer .  Theres a lot of competition at freelancer.
