Scuttlebutting are you doing that thriftypinoy? I'd love to do that but I'm far off from Manila. Tried it locally here in my town and got the "its confidential" answer. I was trying to go for a non-publicly held school here. I think I needed more people skills before I could do scuttlebutting successfully. Anyways, thanks for the tips though , totally appreciated it. Also thanks to bauer, I didn't know that its available at our local broker.

Well I try to, haha... but yes, it really takes a lot of practice--driving a conversation, making it interesting, at the same time fishing for good, relevant, helpful info from it to aid you in gauging a prospect business. what do you mean you were trying to go for a non-publicly held school there? And btw, in which town are you?

gig,

if the non publicly traded company is based in manila, and you want to join as a shareholder, check another thread where another pmt member had a sad experience on his serendra restaurant share.  he join the business as a passive investor with a promise of good returns but after he could not even access the financial records to check why the business has financial problems.  the worst thing right now, he does not know how he can liquidate his share of capital and he does not know his legal rights and even the current value of his shares.

Guys just on a lighter note, medyo OT pero couldn't help but share, I got a hell of a laugh. I didn't know what "scuttlebutting" meant so searched for it on google but mistakenly  typed "scuttlebugging". I was shocked at first, but then discovered my mistake.  :harhar:

I pretty much gave up on the school. That's another of my problem bauer, owning a non-publicly traded share is so illiquid. I was prepared to hold the stock for more than 15 years but I was turned off on the notion that insiders or current owners have the first crack if any shares would be sold. I mean they could pretty much dictate the buying price. I didn't get to see their FS, dividend rate is so so. Stock price is appreciating but nobody is buying or selling. I likened it to my neighbor that increases his selling price for his lot everytime somebody asks to buy it. Until now the lot is unsold. I think my neighbor is just tripping.
