More Filipinos look for “sex” than “money” — in Google search, that is.

Google Trends, a Google tool that charts how often a particular term is entered relative to the total number of searches, has shown that Filipino internet users search for the keyword “sex” more often than the keyword “money.”

Here is Google’s data for Philippine searches from 2004 until 2010. While the number of searches for the keyword “money” remained stable through the years, the number of searches for the term “sex” has continuously peaked and climaxed — no pun intended.

Google searches from the Philippines: sex vs. money

The top 7 cities in the Philippines that searched for sex the most in Google include:

  1. Cagayan de Oro
  2. Davao
  3. Makati
  4. Quezon City
  5. Cebu
  6. Manila
  7. Pasig

From the chart above, it was apparent that there was a barrage of “sex” searches in 2009. What caused it?

You guessed it right. A lot of people from the Philippines were turning to Google for the infamous Hayden Kho sex videos. Leaked videos of Hayden Kho in compromising situations with various women such as Katrina Halili and Maricar Reyes were all over the net. Rumors sparked more searches. Thousands want to watch and download the Ruffa Mae Quinto sex tape. Even that of Vicki Belo‘s. Although its existence remained unconfirmed, the supposed sex videos of Bea Alonzo and of KC Concepcion were also popular searches in Google.

Without a doubt, “sex” is hotter than “money” in the Philippine online arena. And we still wonder why the Philippines is poor and, at the same time, overpopulated.

    no wonder many filipinos are still poor.

    they think of nightly pleasure than what to eat tomorrow or where to send their kids in the future

    ^ Add to that is the fact that a lot of Filipinos lack the passion and determination to really make money. Some Pinoy parents even try to produce a lot of kids, thinking they can “enhance their chances” of getting rich by doing so, without realizing that they only compound their own financial problems.

  • Nano

    I remember hearing poor people say that it is good to have many children because these kids will help them when they grow old. The thing is, it usually never happens. The reality is, when these kids grow up they either stay dependent upon their parents or have their own family and worries of their own to think of helping their parents financially.

    i think the demographics of the pinoy internet users should be studied first befor this conclusion is reached. janet’s comment that no wonder most pinoys are poor is simply a worng conclusion based from a wrong assumption and a lot of wrong conclusions in between. a country being poor just because internet users type in sex more than money is simply a over simplification of the thought process.

  • Ryan

    Haha this maybe 2006 article but I think I find this funny.

    @James

    Regarding the make more kids to help you at old age. Remember the Philippines used to be an agrarian society and it is normal for people in these kinds of places to have many kids to help with the farm work. Of course, thats not the case anymore but I’m trying to point out here is old habits die hard.

    @bradley

    Of course we are not poorer because pinoy google users search for more porn then money articles on google but it does point out a trend, however simplified it seems, that a vast majority of pinoys are not really “money conscious.” Of course I’m basing my assumptions on pure subjective speculation but by simply looking at our overall demographic of the Philippines, I doubt a lot of us are interested in money matters (except to spend it).
