LTO website hacked by Turkish hacker

A friend working at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) of the Philippines buzzed me at Yahoo! Messenger to inform me that the LTO website (www.lto.gov.ph) has been hacked and defaced by a Turkish hacker.

I went to the site a few minutes ago and, true enough, the site was hacked. As of this writing, this what appears in the front page of www.lto.gov.ph.

The Philippines' LTO website has been defaced by a Turkish hacker.

An upbeat music (most probably a Turkish song) plays in the background while the following text is displayed:

HACKED BY iSKORPiTX

My friend told me that the site had been defaced since this morning but the IT guys in their department were able to get the original site back up a few hours ago. However, the hacker attacked again and the IT people are still working to counter the attack at present. Well, good luck to them.

According to SecurityProNews, the hacker iSKORPiTX is thought to be a 45-year old Turkish man with a reputation of hacking a number of websites simultaneously. From 2003 to 2006, it is said that he had hacked an estimated 117,000 websites. In May 2006, Zone-H reported that Iskorpitx succesfully hacked 21,549 websites in one shot and defaced all of them with a message showing the Turkish flag (with AtaTurk face on it). In February this year, more than 100 websites in New Zealand were simultaneously wiped out by a single attack.

Even problogger Jeremy Schoemaker’s site (ShoeMoney.com) got hit by Iskorpitx in 2006:
