Splash IPO approved by SEC

The Securities and Exchange Commission has approved a plan of personal care products firm Splash Corp. for an initial public offering (IPO) of stock worth as much as P2.5 billion.
In documents filed with the SEC, Splash said it would offer up to 223.85 million new and existing shares at P8.70 to P11.18 each.
The sale of new shares is projected to generate P1.64-P2.11 billion.
Splash said the funds would be spent largely on acquisition of local brands in the personal care and related industries, such as health and wellness brands.

A dividend given to shareholders in the form of cash. It is computed by multiplying the number of shares held by the cash dividend rate declared.
- Stock Dividend
A dividend given to shareholders in the form of additional stocks. It is computed by multiplying the number of shares held by the percentage of the stock dividend declared.
- Stock Rights
Stock rights offering is the option given to the present shareholders to buy additional shares of stock at a price lower than its market price.

The 25 basis points rate cut by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas last week pushed the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) up week-on-week by 5.68%.
The bourse closed last week at 3,775.91, with total year-to-date returns of 26.6%.

iRemit IPO price set at P4.68; offer starts today

iRemit (I-Remit) Inc., the largest Filipino-owned non-bank remittance company in the Philippines, has set the price for its initial public offering (IPO) at P4.68 per share.
The IPO shares were priced at the mid-point of the indicative price range of P4 to P5.77 per share.
The offer runs from today, October 5, until October 11 and involves 140.6 million common shares, of which 107.4 million are new shares and 33.2 million are shares currently held by existing shareholders.
The offer represents 25% of the company's enlarged capital stock.
Listing on the local bourse has been set for Oct. 17.
At the offer price of P4.68, iRemit is expected to raise about P658 million from the IPO which it plans to use to finance its expansion in existing and new markets, augment working capital requirements, and retire some of the company’s short-term debts.
iRemit will be the first to list on the exchange following the market's sharp correction in August that was triggered by concerns about the housing and credit problems in the US.

What are STOCKS? What are SECURITIES?
Stocks are shares of ownership in a corporation. When you become a stockholder or shareholder of a company, you become part-owner of that company.

Securities, on the other hand, are proof of one’s ownership or indebtedness in a company. Examples of securities are treasury bills and commercial papers, which are considered as short-term and are traded in the money market; and stocks and bonds, which are long-term and traded in the capital market. Securities are easily bought and sold in the stock market.

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) applauded the decision of the US Federal Reserve to cut its benchmark interest rate by half a percentage point, soaring to 3,423.73 at the end of the trading week, up by almost 4% week-on-week.
Analysts, however, cautioned investors over some volatility this week. BPITrade sees the market extending correction this week, with investors remaining in the sidelines while waiting for 3Q results. 2TradeAsia also sees some profit-taking and expects the Philippine bourse to track markets abroad.

PSE to honor winners of 2007 Open Stock Trading Tournament

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) is set to award on October 3 the top players of its recently concluded Open 2007 Stock Trading Tournament.
The stock trading simulation game started in March 2007 and attracted more than 500 students from over 40 colleges and universities in the Philippines. Participants used P1 million virtual funds to trade stocks of PSE listed firms in the hopes of increasing the value of their portfolio.

Philippine stocks soar on US Fed rate cut

The Philippine stock market welcomed the decision of the US Federal Reserve to cut its benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points, ending the trading day higher by 2.23% or 73.23 points to close at 3,362.98.
Total shares traded yesterday were 3.3 billion valued at P3.9 billion. Gainers swamped decliners 96 to 23, with 40 stocks unchanged.
Online trading site BPITrade expects the market to continue its upswing today, with initial resistance at 3400.
