Pinoy Money Talk on MoneySense magazine

February 1, 2008

The 1st anniversary issue of personal finance magazine MoneySense featured Pinoy Money Talk as one of “noteworthy” blogs on personal finance. The list also includes the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s MoneySmarts blog and the Philippine stock trading forum FinanceManila.net.

Thanks for the mention but let us clarify that PMT is not really a “personal finance” blog because our articles don’t talk a lot about budgeting, financial planning, or managing finances. Not that we don’t consider those things important. It’s just that we know other sites provide much better information and also, we prefer to feature practical solutions to financial problems by writing about income and investment opportunities that may be of value to our readers looking for alternative or additional sources of income.

An additional clarification, too. The PMT blog officially started only in mid-2006 (not “July 2005″ as mentioned in the article) while the Pinoy Money Talk forum began in March 2005 (not “late 2004″).

That’s actually why we’re celebrating our 3rd Anniversary this coming March! (By the way, join our “Countdown to 3″ 3rd Year Anniversary contest and win P6,000!)

Still, we’d like to thank MoneySense Magazine for taking the time out to look at our website.

Back online after 12+ hours of downtime

January 10, 2008

Pinoy Money Talk is finally back online after more than 12 hours of downtime. The site first went down around the afternoon of January 9, Manila time. After 8 hours or so, the site temporarily went back online for 2 hours before going down again.

As of 9:30 a.m. today, the site is officially back up. Forunately, no data seems to be lost.

The downtime was apparently caused by a power outage at the datacenter where the website is hosted. Almost all websites under the webhost became inaccessible starting yesterday for several hours. We’re just glad now that everything seems to be back to normal.

To all our readers, feed subscribers, and visitors, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by this downtime.

Have a good day.

In retrospect: Pinoy Money Talk in 2007

January 1, 2008

It’s definitely that time of the year when we pause for a while to think about the year that was while, at the same time, planning for the year ahead.

Looking back, 2007 was an eventful and exciting year for Pinoy Money Talk (PMT) as we repositioned the site as a portal on personal finance, banking, investments, trading, and online and offline income opportunities.

The PMT Forum

As of December 31, 2007, the PMT Forum boasts of 4,600+ registered members, 3,700 of which were added in 2007 alone. The number excludes more than 1,000 inactive accounts which were purged last year.

Winners of PMT’s $25 Christmas Contest

December 9, 2007

Sharing is undeniably the essence of Christmas. And several posters in our $25 Christmas Contest wrote that should they win, they will give the prize to charity or to someone they know who needs the money. Noble intent, indeed, but how are you to win if everybody else is saying the same thing?

You make a heart-tugging but not-oh-so-melodramatic post, that’s how.
