Is Bidvertiser a good alternative to Google Adsense?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

For the past 3 years, our online income came primarily from Google Adsense. But with so many not-so-good things going on with both Google and its Adsense program — PageRank penalties, new rules regarding ad units, and declining Adsense earnings, to name just a few — we thought now might be a good time to try other Adsense alternatives.

There are a lot of Adsense competitors around such as Yahoo! Publisher Network, AdBrite, and Bidvertiser. In our first attempt searching for a good Adsense alternative, we tried out Bidvertiser.

Make more money offline using money earned online

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

So you’ve managed to earn money online? Good for you!

What did you do with it? Bought a car? Got a laptop computer? Or treated your family and friends to Jollibee? In my case, I used my $1,000+ Google Adsense earnings in October to buy an LCD TV.

Nothing wrong with that, but do you know that if you defer gratifying yourself with luxuries, you’ll end up with something more?

I’ll show you how I used the money I earned online to make more money offline.

$4,500 Adsense check

In the article How to track Adsense checks sent via DHL, I wrote about using DHL to receive my Google Adsense’s Secured Express Delivery check sent in October.

Here’s a copy of that check, if you’re interested.

Check earned from Adsense: $4,500 (converted to peso at P44.97 exchange rate).

The total peso amount of P204,311.30 represents the $4,500+ earnings from Adsense (converted using P44.97 exchange rate) that I accumulated in 3 months.

The LCD TV that blogging bought

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

In the tradition of “The xxx that blogging (or Adsense) bought” articles popularized by other bloggers such as Darren Rowse (who bought a house), Abe (Mitsubishi Lancer ‘97), J. Racoma (Toyota Corolla GLi ‘97), Marghil (Acer laptop), and Markku (Asus laptop) here comes my own story: The LCD TV that blogging bought.

I’m not usually the type who immediately spends what I earn. I prefer to reinvest the earnings I get from Adsense, stocks, and mutual funds into other income opportunities so as to further maximize the return.

But this time, I decided to pamper myself and give myself an early birthday and Christmas gift. After encashing my $1,000+ earnings from Google Adsense via Western Union last week, I headed off to Abenson’s in Market! Market! at The Fort and bought this 32-inch LCD TV.

A 32-inch LCD TV bought by my Google Adsense earnings.

How to earn from Text-Link-Ads

Friday, March 16th, 2007

A webmaster-friend of mine told me that exactly a week after he signed up in Text-Link-Ads, his account shows he has already earned $15. I visited his site (PR4 with a fair amount of backlinks) and there they are, the three text link ads worth $15. Not bad, considering all he did was submit his site to Text-Link-Ads and add the appropriate code. That’s it.

Text-Link-Ads (TLA) is a link advertising system that pays publishers for placing advertisers’ links in their sites. TLA splits the final sale price of any ads sold 50/50 with the site owner. Ads on a site are priced based on an algorithm that factors in the traffic of a website, site theme, and link popularity.

How can you earn with Text-Link-Ads? Read below.

  • Publishing Text Link Ads

Submit your site to TLA. Once approved, add the publisher ad code to your site and wait for TLA to sell your ad space to advertisers. Text link ads automatically appear in your site (where you placed the code) once an advertiser is found. You can check your earnings in your TLA account. Payments are sent out on the 1st of every month. The minimum payment to be sent out via check is $25. There is no minimum for PayPal payments.

  • Feedvertising

Feedvertising is TLA’s RSS ad technology. It allows you to place text link ads at the bottom of your blog’s RSS feeds. Just install the TLA Wordpress plugin to your Wordpress blog and you’re all set. No need to tinker with complicated codes.

  • Affiliate Marketing

Refer a new paid client or new publisher and earn $25.00. Payments are sent out on the 1st of every month. The minimum payment to be sent out via check is $25. There is no minimum for PayPal payments.

Join Text-Link-Ads now and start earning.

Another get-paid-to-post-reviews program: SponsoredReviews

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

Another pay-per-post program is in town. Just like ReviewMe and PayperPost, the new player, SponsoredReviews, is paying bloggers who will write reviews of an advertiser’s product or site.

Depending on a blog’s readership and quality of posts, the SponsoredReviews system recommends an amount that can be charged, but the blogger can choose to ignore this and set his own price.

For each task offered in SponsoredReviews, a minimum and maximum amount will be specified. A blogger can bid for how much he is willing to write the review and the advertiser can accept or reject the bid offer. A blogger can earn anywhere from $10 to $1000 per review.

How Pinoys earn money online

How do Filipinos earn money online? Let us count the ways.

  • 1. Google Adsense, etc.

How Filipinos earn money online The most basic way to make money online is to own a site or blog and monetize it by having advertising networks serve ads to the site. Learn how to start a blog here then pepper it with content. The more content, the better. Once you have a decent number of posts, join any of the popular advertising networks Google Adsense, Bidvertiser, and AdBrite. They will give you snippets of codes that you have to add to your sites in order to show the ads. When visitors click on the ads, you get paid. Know the basics of Google Adsense here or share how much you are earning from it by posting in the Google Adsense Earnings Survey thread.

  • 2. Selling Ad Space

Some Filipino website owners offer customized packages and lease advertising space directly to advertisers. You need to have valuable and frequently updated content, however, and consistent traffic in order to attract advertisers.

Most of the time, Pinoy publishers merely join ad networks where they sell their ad space. Upon signing up, these networks provide links that are to be posted in the blog or site in order to receive payment. A few examples of these networks include Blog to Profit, Money4Blogs, Chitika, Crisp Ads, grokAds, Tagword, and Text Link Ads.

  • 3. Paid Blogging

Rather than write mushy, self-centric, or showbiz-crazed stuff, a few Pinoy writer-bloggers use their creative juices to publish short reviews of a product, website, or service. Of course, they get paid in the process. Two of the popular sites where you can become a paid blogger are ReviewMe and PayPerPost.

  • 4. Paid Outsourced Service (Content writing, programming, web design, SEO services)

Several Filipinos hang out in sites like Rent-a-Coder, Scriptlance, Getafreelancer, and eLance to offer programming, content writing, web design, or search engine optimization (SEO) services for a fee. Competition among fellow for-hires, though, is tough but once a good reputation is built, clients will ultimately follow. Learn how some PMT members are successfully earning as home-based freelancers in the Freelancers and Home-Based Workers board in the forum.

  • 5. Affiliate Marketing

Sell someone else’s products and earn commissions for every lead or sale. A few have found luck earning regular income as affiliates of Commission Junction, LinkShare, ShareaSale, and previously Clickbank. Discuss strategies with other Pinoy affiliate marketers in the Internet and Affiliate Marketing board.

  • 6. Online Selling

The bustling activity in eBay.ph, Auction.ph and Bidshot.com is a testament to the growing number of Filipino sellers. Sell your stuff by posting in eBay, transforming a Multiply account into an online shop, or setting up a full-fledged e-commerce site. Drop by the Online Auctions, Selling and Dropshipping board for more stories of Pinoys in the online selling arena.

  • 7. HYIP and Autosurf Investing

If you are the gambler type, “investing” in autosurf or high yield investment programs (HYIP) might be for you. For a short period of time, you can earn double, triple, or even 10,000 times your principal without doing anything or, at the most, “autosurfing” other people’s websites. Beware, though, because 99% of these online “investment” programs are scams.

  • 8. Get-paid-to (GPT) Programs

Not a lot of income can be expected here, but absolutely no cash outlay is needed either. Earn a few cents after several minutes (sometimes hours) of clicking links and reading advertisement emails. To meet fellow GPTers, go to the Free-to-Join Get-Paid-To Programs or visit the GPT Programs Discussion board to access a list of programs that are currently paying.

Here are some more stories of how Pinoys earn money online.
