Honda City or Toyota Vios?

We’re now on our third week in the house that blogging bought. Once in a while, a few minor snags still crop up like water leaks and drainage problems but a more bothersome nuisance for me is the transportation to and from our place.

You see, I don’t own a car and, inside our subdivision, there are no tricycles or jeepneys. Just to reach the main gate, one has to walk for around 10 minutes. From there, the only way to reach the highway is via a tricycle and every time you take it, expect a very bumpy ride.

And so I thought of giving myself a Christmas present. Yup, a car. The Google Adsense car, because I’ll be using the remainder of my Adsense income this year to purchase it.

I don’t have enough cash so I’m not planning on getting a brand new one. Still, I want one that is, as much as possible, fuel-efficient and doesn’t regularly break down.

I’ve looked around both online and offline and I’ve narrowed my options to two. That’s where I need your opinions. Between the two second-hand cars, which do you think is the better deal?

Option #1: 2000 Honda City
1.3 iDSi
Manual Transmission
Mileage: 84,000 km.
Color: Silver
Casa-maintained, according to owner
Price: P250,000

Option #2: 2004 Toyota Vios
1.5 VVTi engine
Manual Transmission
Mileage: 68,000 km.
Color: Silver
Casa-maintained, according to owner
Price: P400,000

I’m not a car expert, so I need your insights on what I should consider before buying one. If you help me well enough, I’ll let you ride with me in that car that blogging will buy!

Which then would you go for: Honda City or Toyota Vios? Or do you know of a better deal?

there are both fuel efficient and u can not go wong either car, just that as they said — overprice yng vios. i prefer the vios too because of the newer model at abundant of parts at any location. yng honda kc sa casa mo lng pde bilhin yng parts tapos para kang laging hinoholdap sa taas ng presyo. hanap kpa ng iba, mhal ang bgay nya.

Next time tell us the year model pero I think 2003 yang honda low mileage pa natakbo, compare jan sa Vios mas bago.

Oh my! It took me a second look at this post to realize that the HONDA has a higher mileage. Wahahaha! Honestly, James, I don’t like either of the car. I mean, I still LOVE Toyota, but the Vios you posted, NOT A GOOD DEAL! You know, basing from your options, I know you can definitely afford a car with a price range of Php 400-500k. Be patient in looking for great deals.

Ever wonder why Honda makes a sort-of “exclusivity” agreement with its car owners? It’s because ayaw ng HONDA na matagtag ang mga cars nila because madali itong masira. Hahaha. Just my two cents. Peace to HONDA car owners! :)

honda parts are expensive and a little hard to find.
many bought toyota vios which you can have a lot of drivers to share problems or ask help with, there is a huge club of vios in the country, http://www.viosclubphil.com.

also, 400,000 minus 250,000 is 150,000 for a four year age difference.
sir, you can earn that money in less than a year, you deserve a newer, more reliable, better performing car. :)
i think you can also bargain a lot from these sellers since money is pretty hard nowadays.

Thanks for the insights, everyone! Keep them coming!

Yung Honda, bawal daw talagang gawing taxi.

Mababa daw yung mileage kasi nde masyadong nagagamit nung may-ari.

@Paul, will try to look for your email. I don’t have decent internet connection that’s why it’s hard for me to easily reply to emails.

Please continue posting whatever opinions you may have on both cars. I appreciate them. Merry Christmas!

kung may pangdown ka lang at can-afford mo naman ang monthly installment, i suggest buying a brand new car. second hand cars are second hand. hindi naman ibebenta yan kung walang problema. pwedeng maayos for the first few months, tapos, sasakit na ulo mo after. your seller will not tell you of any problems, of course. lahat sasabihin yan, excellent condition kuno. unless kakilala ko talaga ang nagbebenta, i wouldn’t buy a second hand car.

with a brand new car, wala kang iisipin na baka magloko all of a sudden. my first car was a brand new, at matatapos ko na yung bayad next year. kahit 4 years na sya, bagong bago pa rin ang dating, at walang kaproble-problema.

    just my 2 cents. :)

im a honda car owner and fan but il say go with the vios.. not that one though.. mataas ang presyo.. and hindi naman tlga guarantee na maayos ang pagkakaalaga sa sasakyan kahit casa maintained yan.. kung napanood nyo sa balita dati, may mga kalokohan ng nangyayari sa loob.. better if makakakuha ka ng car na gusto mo sa isang kakilala na alam mong marunong magalaga.. take your time in buying a car.. pero kung malaki naman ang budget mo at kaya mo magbayad ng monthly like the other gengleman said, go for a new car.. newer technology less headaches din.. magkaproblema man, under warranty.. =) (and dont buy a city or jazz na “automatic iDSI”, if you noticed tinanggal na nila yun sa bagong jazz.)

May kilala akong used car dealer. Bought a 2nd hand Mazda 3 from him last year, wala akong reklamo at all.

There is no such agreement between Honda and buyers regarding using their cars as taxis. “Urban Legend” lang yun. Sinong auto manufacturer ang ayaw ng mataas na sales? pag taxi fleet e di ba malaki ang sales? madali masira ang honda, and spare parts are price are so high. wala naman quality…pareho lng naman ng ibang japanese cars.

Asian and European taxis even use mercedes benz and bmws as taxis, does it mean wala rin kwenta yung brands na to? think about it?
