Globe will carry iPhone in the PhilippinesGlobe Telecom will be the official network carrier of the iPhone in the Philippines and units may be sold locally starting this September.

That’s according to an Inquirer news story and a short press statement published in Globe’s website:

Globe, SingTel, Bharti Airtel and Optus today announced that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to the Philippines, Singapore, India, and Australia later this year.

More information will be released at a later date.

The iPhone is a cellphone manufactured and marketed by Apple Inc. More than 5.4 million units have been sold since it was launched in 2007.

Launching iPhones in the Philippines this year is a good move on Apple’s part especially since more and more iPhones are already being sold in black markets around the country. In our article Where to buy cheap Apple iPhone in the Philippines, we identified places where unofficial versions of the phone can be bought.

Still, we’re pretty sure that the arrival of the “official” iPhone will not mean the end for “hacked” and “unofficial” iPhones in the Philippines. Wanna bet?
