Blog Guide 6: How to add a picture in a Wordpress blog
January 1, 2008
If you finished Blog Guide 5: Make that first blog post!, that means you deserve a big applause because you now have published your work online! Congratulations!
At this point, let’s learn how to enhance your post by adding an image to the article.
To do this, you must be logged in to your Wordpress.com account and must be in the Write > Write Post section.
There are two ways to include an image file in a blog post: linking to an image available online and using an uploaded picture file.
1. Linking to an image file online
a. Locate and click the Insert/edit image button in the Compose field toolbar (or use the keyboard shotcut: Alt+Shift+m).
b. In the pop-up screen, fill in the Image URL and Image Description. The other fields are optional.
c. Click Insert. The image will now appear in the blog post.
2. Using an uploaded image file
a. Click the Add an Image link in the menu toolbar located right above the Post Body area and below the Title field and Permalink.
b. In the pop-up menu, go to From Computer > Select Files then choose the image file you want uploaded. Wait for it to be uploaded 100%.
c. Add/edit the Title, Alternate Text, Caption, Description, Link URL, Alignment and Size as you see fit.
d. If you want to show the image in the body of the post, click Insert into Post. Otherwise, click Save All Changes to save the file to your Media Library (you can use this file anytime later).
