December 30, 2008

You’ve probably heard it by now. Members of a clan of political elites are involved in an alleged mauling incident last week at the Valley Golf and Country Club in Antipolo City.

The suspects: Masiu, Lanao del Sur Mayor Nasser Pangandaman, Jr. and his 5 bodyguards. Father Nasser Sr., Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary, reportedly just watched while the victims, a 56-year-old and a 14-year-old boy, were beaten up.

Adsense income down on Christmas Day

December 29, 2008

December 25 did not exactly bring me joy and cheer because my online earnings that day from Google Adsense was disappointingly low. In fact, my Adsense income during Christmas Day was the lowest in recent weeks.

As seen in the graph below, PinoyMoneyTalk.com registered the lowest pageviews (orange line) and online income (blue line) during Christmas Day.

Peso – Dollar exchange rate in 2008

December 27, 2008

Past performance is definitely not a guarantee of future results.

In 2007, the Philippine Peso was Asia’s best performing currency, up 18.8% against the US Dollar, closing at P41.28 at the end of the year.

In 2008, this situation has reversed. The peso is now one of the worst performing currencies in Asia, closing at P47.52 to the dollar in December 24, the last trading day of the year. This is a 15% decline from the P41.28 level at the beginning of 2007.

Misleading Philippine Star title: PNB insures UITF

December 23, 2008

Today’s article in the Philippine Star about Unit Investment Trust Funds (UITF) is not only misleading but, more importantly, disappointing.

The article carried the title “PNB insures UITF.” Judging from the title, you’d expect to read that the Philippine National Bank (PNB) has agreed to insure the UITF products they offer.

But did they really?

Honda City or Toyota Vios?

December 22, 2008

We’re now on our third week in the house that blogging bought. Once in a while, a few minor snags still crop up like water leaks and drainage problems but a more bothersome nuisance for me is the transportation to and from our place.

You see, I don’t own a car and, inside our subdivision, there are no tricycles or jeepneys. Just to reach the main gate, one has to walk for around 10 minutes. From there, the only way to reach the highway is via a tricycle and every time you take it, expect a very bumpy ride.

And so I thought of giving myself a Christmas present. Yup, a car. The Google Adsense car, because I’ll be using the remainder of my Adsense income this year to purchase it.

Adsense income down, hit by economic crunch?

December 13, 2008

Leo of MixPH.com emailed me last week asking if I am seeing a decline in Google Adsense earnings. He noted that his week’s income was considerably lower than the previous week.

Actually, I’ve been experiencing this downtrend for a couple of weeks now. Although the site’s page impressions and click-through rates (CTR) were relatively unchanged, my Adsense income during the past weeks was lower compared to the previous months.
