The Olympic opening ceremony is said to have been watched by 91,000 people at the National Stadium and a potential audience of 4 billion TV viewers worldwide.
It is also depicted as the largest and costliest opening ceremony in Olympic history, capped by more than 30,000 fireworks displayed, an amazing Olympic torch lighting ceremony, parade of thousands of athletes from around the world, and extravagant presentations and performances by host country China.

Gave me the shivers… kept me glued to my seat… even had to forego bathroom time. Zhang Yimou’s direction was superb! Always admired his movies but this was over the top. A big applause to all the performers as well. Astounding!
