Discourteous bank managers and staff of BDO
July 18, 2008
In this day and age, can you really judge a person’s financial capability based merely on appearance?
Some staff of Banco de Oro (BDO), one of the country’s leading banks, seem to think they can.
Several PMT members narrated in the forum’s Discriminating BDO bank manager thread how they were treated differently or, worse, badly just because they visited a BDO branch with an “unprofessional” attire or look.
PMT member silensyo recounts his experience:
I went to BDO Bagtikan branch and tried to apply for an account. I was wearing short pants, plain t-shirt, and having a bad hair day.
I only had my TIN card and company ID in hand, which is an acceptable “valid id” according to their policy.
The teller checked my IDs, looked at me from head to foot, proceeded to ask her manager if my ID’s were acceptable. The manager did the same thing, looked at me sizing me up as if I was a suspicious person.
After a few seconds, she uttered “may mas malapit na BDO dun sa company nyo, dun ka na lang magopen” (”there’s a branch closer to your company’s office; go open an account there”).
So there I was, quite shocked about the impolite remark but still remained peaceful and said to her that I live near the branch and that I prefer here instead. The manager insisted and told me that I must present a certification of employment instead.
So there, feeling very disrespected by the actions of these people, I decided to leave the branch.
BDO does “find ways” to annoy their current and prospective clients. Tsk, tsk…

Hello,
I also had some bad experience in Ayala Branch & Bel Air Branch, they’re so unhelpful, they should have this “CUSTOMER SERVICE” training since they’re were in services. Even though i have this checking account & Dollar acoount with these branch. Of course you need to ask question if not malinaw in your part, you need to confirm and analyze how does it work…but as I can see if your asking question i find it they we’re not helpful enough for you to understand and explain briefly…..Sana Mr. Sy & Mrs. Sy have time to visit these branches and do re assign the teller and the manager and gave them proper training how to handle a customer or client service.

The branch manager and staff are just complying to the provisions of the Anti Money Laundering Act (AMLA). Please do research on the topic. It will help you understand the situation.

My classmate is also working in BDO. I often visit the BDO branch where she is presently working. The staff are nice and so far, my feedback is positive. I believe this is only an isolated case.
But I highly suggest that BDO should look at this issue since customer service is very important for a company’s success.
“Your time is more important than money….and….customer regardless if she or is wearing short pants, plain t-shirt, and having a bad hair day is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT!”

hi,
I have emailed some of my friends in the HR department of BDO. Hopefully they could reprimand the branch manager in bagtikan branch. :)
My mom also had some bad experience in the retiro branch (with discourteous tellers) kaya nga mas prefer niya yung metrobank. :)
