Free LRT and MRT rides

June 12, 2008

Earlier today, LRT and MRT commuters were treated to a surprise. Rides were for free in celebration of Independence Day (June 12).

From 7 to 9 a.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m., free rides were given to commemorate Independence Day “following top-level instructions,” according to MRT General Manager Roberto Lastimoso. A direct order from the President? Hmm..

In any case, the free rides surely were a welcome surprise to LRT and MRT commuters.

Were you able to take advantage of this today?

@JC, I checked the news and yup, you’re right. The free rides were in commemoration of Independence Day. The offline card reader reason came from one of the MRT guards who was probably unaware of the event or was asleep when the announcement was made hehe. The article has now been updated.

This is no surprise, they have been doing this every year, I am a regular MRT user =). Though I was not able to take advantage of this because I was too early when I go to the office in the morning and too late when I got home =( This was also in the news days before….
