You are poor if your family income is less than P10k a month
June 1, 2008
A family of five with total monthly income of less than P10,000 (US$244) is considered poor, according to a new estimate of the National Statistics Coordination Board (NSCB).
In 2006, the same family is considered poor if its household income is no more than P8,569 per month.
The NSCB explained that the new income threshold covers only basic needs like food, clothing, shelter, and transportation and does not include spending for recreation. This, however, has already taken into account the recent surge of prices in oil, rice, and other commodities.
Almost 27% of Filipino families were considered poor in 2006. The number this year may increase or decrease depending on the change in the family’s average monthly income.
The numbers are still preliminary, according to the NSCB, and official figures will be determined in 2009. Surveys for poverty statistics are conducted once every three years, and the last one was in 2006.
What’s your monthly household income? Is your family considered poor?

Is this net or gross income? Mukhang net, no? So siguro kahit mga P12 K per month yung kinikita mo na gross, siguro under ‘poor’ ka pa rin.

How sad, Philippine Government primary goal is business and not services. Obscure Ideas? Yes, Sad but True. Our History can tell why we are on this stage of crisis now. Still, Government encourage export and depend on imported supplies.
Your article “You are poor if your family income is less than P10k a month” is very true. Even 10K plus earners can’t enjoy basic needs and social protection. :(
