Congrats Manny and congrats to all who made money from this fight!
When Manny Pacquiao defeated Juan Manuel Marquez in their March 2008 World Boxing Council (WBC) bout, a lot of Filipinos rejoiced not just because Pacquiao won but because they also made money from the fight.

Less than half a million Filipinos invest in stock market

A recent survey conducted by the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) showed that very few Filipinos participate in the stock market.
According to the survey, there were only 430,681 accounts being maintained for Filipino investors by PSE trading participants in 2007 – representing not even 1/2 of 1% of the 89 million population of the Philippines.
Of the total, only 103,412 or just a little over 1/10 of 1% of the population were considered active or involved in at least one trade in a year.

Classes are suspended at all levels in 14 areas around the country hit hard by typhoon “Frank.”
The education commission announced that there will be no classes today, June 23, at the elementary, high school, and college levels in the following places: Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Pangasinan, Benguet, La Union, Ilocos Norte and Laguna.

Quality of living in the Philippines not that great

Those complaining that the quality of living in the Philippines is worse compared to other countries may be right.
In the 2008 Quality of Living Survey conducted by Mercer Consulting, Manila ranks 131st out of 215 countries assessed based on quality of living and personal safety. The country slipped eight places from 123rd last year.

Yesterday I finally got hold of my UP Centennial commemorative 100-peso bank notes.
In celebration of the centennial of the University of the Philippines, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas printed limited copies of P100 bills with an overprint of the UP Oblation, the symbol of the country’s premier state university, to the right of former Philippine Pres. Manuel Roxas.
