Support the PMT Charity Fund Drive
March 31, 2008
Give and you shall receive.
Here at Pinoy Money Talk, we recognize that true financial success is not just about acquiring but also sharing material things. And so, we pay it forward by launching our very own Charity Fund Drive where we share blessings with our kababayans who are in need.
The initial beneficiary of the PMT Charity Fund Drive will be the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). For this round, our final collection date is on April 5 (Saturday), the day of the PMT Aniversary EB.
We have now collected P7,800 in donations as of this date. You can still contribute by contacting us for the details of the bank accounts where you can make a deposit. No amount is small, even a cent can go a long way in helping our less-fortunate brothers and sisters.
If you intend to make a donation, please contact us or drop by the PMT Charity Fund Drive thread.

A visit to the Philippine Stock Exchange
March 28, 2008
Our “Investment Management” class in UP Diliman went to the Tektite Tower last week just before the Holy Week holiday to have a tour of the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE).
It surely was exciting to actually visit one of the country’s stock trading floors but, at the same time, disappointing because we did not see a lot of “action.”

Remember pictures or movie scenes of stock traders where they shout and haggle their orders passionately on the floor? Well, there was nothing like that during our tour. In fact, at one point, we saw a few people taking a nap on their desks and also a group of traders chit-chatting — all during trading hours!

(More pics) Cyrus Hao, Royal Manchester Five and the Abba-Deo P1.1 million contract
March 26, 2008
Cyrus Hao, chief executive of Royal Manchester Five (RMF) — a foreign currency investment program that duped investors billions of pesos, is still at large.
Hao, who hails from Pilar, Sorsogon, and Renato San Juan, company vice president for marketing, are feared to have already fled the Philippines on Tuesday, March 4. If you have any information on their whereabouts, please contact the following offices or approach your local police:

Pictures of Cyrus Hao and other RMF agents are in the article Wanted: Cyrus Hao of Royal Manchester Five Trading Corp.
More pictures are shown below.
Also shown is a copy of the contract of RMF with the Abba-Deo Prime Express Corporation, an organization that invested P1.1 million in RMF. The investment was supposed to earn 3.5% per month for 6 months, with the first interest to be paid in March. Unfortunately, the RMF scam unfolded even before Abba-Deo saw a single cent of interest.
Update: Sources tell us that, actually, Abba-Deo was a marketing arm set up exclusively for RMF. Whether they were victims or contributors to the scam is currently part of the police’s investigation.

Philippine stock market now down 22%
March 25, 2008
If you placed a million pesos in the Philippine stock market from the start of January 2008, you would have lost 9% in January alone. If you remained invested until today, that million pesos is now worth only P780,000 – a 22% loss.
That is based on the performance of the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi), a basket of 30 listed common stocks representing the overall movement of market prices and the general state of the Philippine economy.
The PSEi on March 20 closed at 2,817.58, a 22.2% decline from its original value at the start of the year.

Forget the Chicken Dance, forget the Macarena, because the Papaya Dance is now becoming a big hit worldwide.
US TV show Good Morning America (GMA) recently featured the Papaya Dance, popularized by Edu Manzano of the TV game show Pilipinas: Game K N B? (Philippines: Are You Ready?), with the GMA hosts even mimicking the steps.

Valentina Hasan sings ‘Ken Lee’ (aka Mariah Carey’s ‘Without You’)
March 22, 2008
Thanks to YouTube, we now have easy access to a plethora of funny TV boo-boos. We saw Renaldo Lapuz sing his infamous We’re Brothers Forever song on “American Idol,” Ms. South Carolina Teen USA 2007 struggle with everywhere like such as, and Janina San Miguel excusing herself for mangling the English language because she’s just “17 years old.”
The latest one to hit global popularity is a video of a contestant of Music Idol, Bulgaria’s version of “American Idol,” who auditioned by singing her own rendition of Mariah Carey’s Without You.
And by “own rendition,” we mean her very own version — and lyrics — of the song.
Watch Valentina Hasan as she sings Ken Lee.
