Google tests new scrolling Adsense ads

Just saw the following in my Adsense ad units a few minutes ago: the Google Adsense ad scroller!

The scroller is nothing more than tiny “Up”, “Down”, “Left” and “Right” arrows at the bottom of the ad units. Basically, the arrows let you “scroll” the ad unit to show new advertisements. There are several variations of the arrows, both for horizontal and vertical ad units. Cool, huh?

Here are screenshots of three Adsense scrolling ad units I’ve seen. YouTube video of the Ad Scroller at work after the jump.

The question now: when visitors scroll the ad units, is that considered a page impression? And if they are, do publishers earn from those page impressions as well?

Yeah I seen these arrows on my adsense ads as well. Adsense is definitely testing things. I know people said they hope this will increase their earnings through Adsense but I really don’t think it will make a difference really. In my opinion I don’t even think it will happen that they decide to leave it with scrollable arrows. I don’t think people will even click on the arrows to see more ads, I may be wrong but just my opinion. I’m sure we’ll see sooner or later. It would be nice to see an increase in Adsense earning from this but we’ll have to wait and see.

Maybe, but as long as publishers get to earn more because of this new feature, I doubt there’d be some complaining.

I hope this new feature CAN really increase the Adsense income of publishers…

When I first saw it, my initial reaction was to take its screenshot because I figured it was just a temporary experiment that Adsense was doing. Good thing I was able to capture it before it disappeared ^^

Nope, the arrows/scrollbars cannot be resized or moved. But they did have at least three variations of the arrows and, depending on the type of ad unit, clicking the arrows can slide the ads from left to right (and vice-versa) or top to bottom (and vice-versa).

Nice find! ^_^ It’s a good thing you managed to capture a snapshot of the scroll arrows.

This new feature would prove very useful. BTW, is there an option that lets you change the size and position of the scroll bars?

    Thanks, happy blogging!

It looks like Google was testing this feature earlier. I don’t see it now on my ads too. Glad I took screenshots and a video! :)

It would be great if the scrolling led to another full set of ads as well. Just another chance to make a few cents.

Got something to say?
