Bus conductors’ new modus operandi: Walang barya!
November 21, 2007
The latest modus operandi of a few scumbag bus conductors:
If you paid with a large bill for the bus ticket, the konduktor will tell you he will give the change (sukli) later because he lacks loose change (barya). After several minutes if you remind him about it, he will reply with the line, “Malayo ka pa naman, mamaya na lang, wala kasi akong barya.”
But once you are about to get off and again insisted on your sukli, he’ll deny it and might even curse and embarrass you, prompting you to get off the bus without getting the sukli you deserve.
Read on to see how some passengers became a victim to these “Walang baryang konduktor” scammers.

(12DailyPro update) How to file a refund claim
November 17, 2007
If you were an investor of the erstwhile online investment program 12DailyPro, you now have a chance to file a refund claim and be able to get some money back if you lost money in this online scam.
Thomas Lennon, Court-appointed Receiver for the 12DailyPro (12DP) autosurf investment program, recently announced the opening of a Web Portal where investors can submit a refund claim.
12DP was an autosurf program that promised investors 12% return on their invested funds every day for twelve days. As an autosurf program, members were to run a program on their computer that would automatically view certain websites and thereby purportedly generate advertising revenue.
12DP Investors have until January 31, 2008 to login to the portal and accept or dispute the amount of the claim.
Investor claims will be calculated using the Money-In-Money-Out (MIMO) formula, which means the claim amount is equivalent to the net amount of investments (money in) and distributions made to the investor (money out).
Here is a step-by-step guide on the 12DailyPro refund process.
Expect ad earnings to drop as Adsense, WidgetBucks revise rules
November 15, 2007
Online earners, especially those from the Philippines, are about to take a hit as two online earning opportunities Google Adsense and WidgetBucks recently changed rules that could possibly decrease a site publisher’s earnings from online advertising.
Adsense shrinks clickable zones
ProBlogger.net broke a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with Google this week to announce that Adsense’s ad units will soon have smaller clickable areas. Until now, ad clicks occur when a person clicks anywhere on the Adsense unit. But with the change, clicks only happen if a person clicks on the actual title or URL of the ad unit.
See below a comparison of the old and new clickable zones (highlighted in light pink) in Adsense ad units.

Google’s reason for the change:
This new format will match the changes we’ve implemented on Google.com to help decrease the number of accidental clicks and increase the number of ad conversions. A reduction in accidental clicks will keep users on your pages, interacting with your content until they choose to click on an ad. This change will enhance the user’s overall experience with your websites and improve advertiser campaign value, but it’s likely that your click-through rate will decrease.
In the short term, this will surely affect publishers who receive additional earnings from accidental clicks. Google theorizes, however, that in the long run publishers still benefit because advertisers will decide to spend more on online advertising supposedly because of higher ad conversion. That remains to be seen though.
WidgetBucks to credit clicks from Canada and US only
In a similar attempt to increase ad conversion, WidgetBucks will no longer credit ad clicks originating from outside US and Canada starting today, November 15.
Make more money offline using money earned online
November 14, 2007
So you’ve managed to earn money online? Good for you!
What did you do with it? Bought a car? Got a laptop computer? Or treated your family and friends to Jollibee? In my case, I used my $1,000+ Google Adsense earnings in October to buy an LCD TV.
Nothing wrong with that, but do you know that if you defer gratifying yourself with luxuries, you’ll end up with something more?
I’ll show you how I used the money I earned online to make more money offline.
$4,500 Adsense check
In the article How to track Adsense checks sent via DHL, I wrote about using DHL to receive my Google Adsense’s Secured Express Delivery check sent in October.
Here’s a copy of that check, if you’re interested.

The total peso amount of P204,311.30 represents the $4,500+ earnings from Adsense (converted using P44.97 exchange rate) that I accumulated in 3 months.
Stocks Basics 3: How much do I need to invest in the stock market?
November 13, 2007
What is the minimum amount needed to invest in the stock market?
Trading stocks is done though board lot or round lot system, which means there is a minimum number of shares one can buy or sell at a specific price range.

Therefore, the minimum amount needed to invest in the stock market varies and will depend on the market price of the stock as well as its corresponding board lot. The board lot differs as the price of stocks move through a scale of minimum fluctuations.
The Philippine Stock Exchange uses the following Board Lot Table:
| Price | Minimum Fluctuations | Board Lot |
|---|---|---|
| 0.001 - 0.0024 | 0.0002 | 1,000,000 |
| 0.0026 - 0.0050 | 0.0002 | 1,000,000 |

Cyber-terrorists to attack today (Nov. 11)?
November 11, 2007
Yes, everything can be done online now — including waging a war.
Antivirus software developer Trend Micro posted an article in its blog saying that terrorists linked to the Al-Qaeda group are threatening to launch an online jihad (holy war) by attacking several anti-Muslim Web sites on November 11, Sunday.
The blog post cited a report published on DEBKA.com, an online military intelligence magazine, claiming that Al-Qaeda’s electronic experts will start attacking Western, Jewish, Israeli, Muslim apostate and Shiite Web sites through the use of an “Electronic Jihad software.”
The software is supposedly capable of launching DDoS attacks, which are attacks that paralyze online systems by sending continuous and tremendous stream of data requests to a particular site, causing it to go offline.
Trend Micro researchers announced that they have discovered a hacking tool detected as HKTL_DAHIJ.A, which may be the E-Jihad’s latest version (Version 3.0).
According to the researchers, the file arrives as an installer package and may be downloaded from a remote site. The following is supposedly a screencap of the GUI for entering a user name and password combination:
