If you’re an eBay scammer, you should be afraid of Judge Judy
October 14, 2007
I found a clip of an old (but not so old) episode of Judge Judy where the judge berates an eBay seller who deceivingly posted advertisements for cellphones when, in fact, she was selling mere pictures of those cellphones!
Watch the video, where Judge Judy calls the eBay scammer "thief," "idiot," and "outrageous," after the jump.
For the uninitiated, Judge Judy is a reality-based court TV show featuring family court judge Judith Sheindlin arbitrating over small claims cases. The eBay scam case involved a mother and daughter named Shannon and KarenAnn Davenport who sent an eBay seller named Kelli Filkins $467 for two cellphones.
However, instead of sending them the cellphones, Filkins literally sent the Davenports two photographs of mobile phones. Filkins insisted her ad said that the two pictures were what was being sold and that the plaintiffs were incapable of reading.
The mother testified that when she called Filkins to demand her money back, Filkins' husband told her that they got what they paid for and "Thanks for the shopping spree." Filkins also posted slanderous comments on the eBay pages of the complainants labeling them as Nigerian scammers.
Judge Judy pointed out that the ad included specifications mentioning the weight of the cellphones (4.9oz) but the two pictures and envelope together weighed much less and therefore was not the product advertised.
Before awarding $5,000 to the plaintiffs (a huge amount compared to the plaintiffs' loss of $467), Judge Judy lashed out at Filkins many times, telling her "You're an idiot", "You're outrageous", and "You're a thief", and "If you live to be 120, you're not going to be as smart as I am on one finger. You may weigh more, but you're not going to be as smart as I am on one finger."

To all eBay scammers, beware! You might be next on Judge Judy!

That surely was funny. The scammer should have known better not to agree to appear on Judge Judy. Look what happened to her. Hehe.
