Successfully merged my Yahoo and MyBlogLog accounts today

I tried logging in to MyBlogLog account today and got surprised that a Yahoo login form greeted me instead. Aah, I figured, the merger of Yahoo! and MyBlogLog accounts has started.

In January this year, web portal Yahoo! purchased blogger networking site MyBlogLog for over $10 million. At that time, MyBlogLog has over 140,000 registered members, 45,000 blogs subscribed, and approximately 100 million visits to pages with MyBlogLog widgets per month.

The purchase was part of Yahoo!'s attempt to get a strong grip on the online social networking community, proven by their previous acquisition of social bookmarking web service del.ici.ous, photo sharing site Flickr and video competition site Bix.com.

Anyway, back to MyBlogLog.

Last week, the company reported that it will start merging members' accounts with their Yahoo! accounts. Today, I logged in to MyBlogLog and was asked if I already have a Yahoo! ID and if I want to merge it with MyBlogLog. I said Yes and, voila, the two became one in a matter of seconds. I can now access MyBlogLog using my Yahoo! ID.

You'll have to do some tweaking on your profile, though, because your account name and picture may be different from what you were previously using in MyBlogLog's.

Latest Update: MyBlogLog site is really slow right now. Migration issues, perhaps.

Newer Update: Site is loading much better now.

Another merger, what else is new. Thanks for the info, I wasn’t even aware that this was in the works.

Got something to say?
