Best Performing Philippine Equity Mutual Funds (as of May 2007)
June 29, 2007
Note: When analyzing mutual funds, you should not simply look at the NAVPS or Net Asset Value per Share. This number does not necessarily tell you whether the fund is performing well or not, but the change of the NAVPS over time does. Never assume that a fund with a high NAVPS means it is generating high returns. You need to look at actual returns of the fund over a certain time period. But then again, be reminded that past performance is and will never be a guarantee of future results.

Choosing the best investment planner
June 27, 2007
An investment planner is like a fund manager who helps clients manage their money. The investment planner picks where to invest the money, identifies the risks involved, informs clients of the nature of the market and eventually helps grow clients’ money.
“I think that we usually have the misconception that what makes the rich wealthy is the money that they earn,†says Carissa J. Patag, a certified securities representative, licensed debt instrument trader and licensed mutual fund agent who have been working in the financial industry for 11 years now. “But, in truth, what makes a person rich is actually his ability to save the money that he has earned, grow the money and convert it into a continuous or recurring stream of income.â€
This is where the investment planner comes in. The planner, according to Ms. Patag, helps clients convert their earned income into passive and portfolio income (collectively known as investments) to provide cash flow.

Is FrancSwiss a scam?
June 22, 2007
It seems the newest craze in town is not anymore Koreanovelas, Pinoy Big Brother, or celebrity video scandals, but an HYIP “pretending to be a genuine investment program” called FrancSwiss. The buzz is that even actors like Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto and TV broadcaster Korina Sanchez have “invested” in the program. With a 4.5% promised return per day, who could resist this kind of offer?
Without a doubt, hundreds of investors have already made big profits during the past months. But would thousands cry and wail once the program is gone and has stopped paying?
