Using Xoom to accept PayPal payments

April 30, 2007

UPDATE: PayPal Philippines accounts are now eligible to accept payments. Alternatively, you can use Xoom to accept PayPal payments from abroad. The article below has more details on that. Note, however, that Xoom cannot be used to withdraw funds from PayPal Philippines accounts.

===============

Using the money transfer service Xoom, you can accept funds from a PayPal user even if you don't have a PayPal account. The sender can pay you using his or her PayPal balance, credit card, or bank account.

Details of the two ways to receive PayPal payments after the jump. If you need to open a Xoom account, click HERE.

Got paid $40 by Blogitive in March

April 21, 2007

Definitely not bad. You just rephrase an advertiser’s press release, post it in your blog using no less than 100 words and you get paid $5. In my case, I was paid $40 in March. And I wasn’t even that active yet, logging in to the Blogitive site only once every three days.

Blogitive is another one of those get paid to blog programs. In contrast with other programs, however, you can easily earn five dollars just by “paraphrasing” a short article (they call it a “web release”) from advertisers. There are very few slots available for each article, so if you refresh the “Open Offers” list without claiming an article, you might miss it right there and then.

Falling in love with Moscow

April 15, 2007

No, Pinoy Money Talk is not turning into a travel blog (well, not yet) but here are some pictures and a video of my recent trip to Russia and Ukraine which explains why this blog went into a one-week no-post hiatus last week.

I first visited Moscow, Russia in August 2006 and fell in love with the city right there and then. The sights and sounds were astoundingly different from what the Philippines, Korea, Singapore or the US have to offer, and the story behind each building, street or monument make Moscow more enchanting.

Reliving the old Studio Traffic forum

April 3, 2007

Not everyone knows this, but Pinoy Money Talk (PMT) owes its existence primarily to Studio Traffic or ST, the de facto "mother" of all autosurf programs.

It was early 2005. Studio Traffic was growing, and more and more Filipinos were joining the autosurf bandwagon. Pinoy ST members often found themselves gathering in the official Studio Traffic forum at www.studiotraffic.org/forum (now offline).

Despotic rules in the ST forum, however — such as absolute ban on links to external sites, on signatures, on posting contact information, and on non-English posts, among others — prevented Filipino and non-Filipino ST members alike from actually discussing what they want to talk about. Any negative post in the forum is outrightly deleted, and those who continue posting account-related questions are banned.

Pinoys eventually found the need for a less-strict forum where they can freely talk about ST without the fear of being banned. In response, the Pinoy Money Talk forum was born.
