DHL’s US$10,000 Young Entrepreneurs for Sustainability (YES) Awards 2007

The DHL Young Entrepreneurs for Sustainability Awards (DHL YES Awards) is an awards program that seeks to recognize and promote young social entrepreneurs in Asia working towards the UN Millennium Development Goals.
In the inaugural year, 2007, the Awards will initially take place in five countries in the Asia Pacific region – Bangladesh, Pakistan, The Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
What are the UN Millennium Development Goals?
The eight (8) Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) whichform a blueprint agreed to by the world’s countries and leading development institutions galvanizing unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest by 2015.
The 8 UN MDGs are:
- Eradicate Extreme Hunger and Poverty
- Achieve Universal Primary Education
- Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
- Reduce Child Mortality
- Improve Maternal Health
- Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases
- Ensure Environmental Sustainability
- Develop a Global Partnership for Development
Who are eligible for the Awards?
All individuals who fulfill all the criteria below are eligible for the awards:
- Be less than 40 years of age as on 31st March (Saturday) and a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of applying for the Awards
- Be a legal resident of either of the following countries Bangladesh, Pakistan, The Philippines, Singapore and Thailand
- Be the primary leader / pioneer/ owner / promoter / founder of the organization in any of the above mentioned countries
- Have a track record of at least three years in running the organization: The organization should have been started before 31st March 2004
- Be able to show results in the achievement of one or more of the Millennium Development Goals and / or national development goals, whichever is higher in terms of higher targets or shorter time
What prize(s) do the winners get?
A national winner and two runners’ up will be selected from each of the five participating countries. An Asia Pacific regional winner will then be selected from the five national winners.
The winners will be awarded cash prizes as follows:
Regional winner (1): USD 10,000
National winners (4): USD 5,000 each
How can I apply for the Awards?
- Application forms for the DHL YES Awards can be download from www.dhl.com/yesawards. Application forms are also available at DHL offices in the participating countries.
- All application forms can be either typed or handwritten (handwritten documents should be easily legible).
- Note that social entrepreneurs can apply directly for the DHL YES Awards or they could be nominated by an organization or an individual.
- The nominating organization/ individual can nominate more than one eligible social entrepreneur.
- The completed application form and supporting documents should be sent by post or email to reach the respective country screening organization (see table) on or before Saturday, 31st March, 2007.
- A completed application form and the required supporting information completes the application package. Any missing information may render an application incomplete.
