Search Engine Pessimization (SEP) vs Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
It was amusing to read an article in the HYIPDiscussion newsletter regarding ways for a site NOT to be indexed by search engines. In a time when most webmasters would kill for anything that would make search engine bots regularly and immediately spider their site, there probably are very, very few webmasters who would wish search engine spiders don't visit their site.
Without a doubt this would include HYIP or autosurf sites whose admins know that sooner or later the program will inevitably end up as scam. So in order to get rid of the program's "online track", these admins would prefer that their sites don't end up as a search engine result page (SERP) in Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. (Of course, when the program is still fluorishing they'd prefer that people find their program in whatever way possible; but once the program has collapsed they'd prefer that their personal information, IP adds, email adds, etc. associated with the site do not appear as a search result.)
Anyway, here goes the suggested list to ensure your site DOES NOT get indexed on search engines.
1. Have no html text on your home page.
Most search engine bots hate non-html pages, especially php sites. Have no html page on your site and you will be guaranteed not to get indexed — because there is nothing to index.
2. Have a 100% Flash driven web site.
Most search engines do not index flash sites.
3. Dump a bunch of keywords on your site and change the color so they are invisible to the eye.
Tricking the search engines by adding a large number of keywords, especially those not visible to visitors, is bound to get you black-listed on search engines.
4. Create an automatic redirect that sends someone to another web site (from your home page).
* These ads open in a new window. *
If you code your web site so that when someone visits it, it goes to another page instantly - most search engines will ban you.
5. Rely solely on your Keyword and Description meta-tags.
Most search engines DO NOT use keywords or description text as a way to index sites. Some use the description tag for the results list. But in general the major search engines ignore these all together when looking to index your site.
6. Have less than 100 words on your home page.
As your home page is usually the first page a spider visits, it is important it has an ample supply of keywords for it to determine how it should index your web site.
7. Not incorporating a site tree or text links off of your home page.
Again, because search engine spiders read text only, it is extremely important to give it the "food" it needs to help index as many pages as possible on your web site.
8. Not having a links page.
Most of the major search engines use link popularity as a key method of determining how high a web site will get ranked within their search engine. Starting a reciprocal linking program by trading links between like-minded web sites will increase your "popularity" online.
9. Having few keyword-rich content.
Have you ever noticed that most of the high-ranking sites seem to have a lot of content? This is because they have learned the importance of having "spider" food online. Keyword rich content also helps build your credibility and makes your site more appealing when trading links.
10. Submit and connect to Link Farms and traffic exchangers or generators.
Google and MSN Search, among others, dislike traffic originating from link farms and traffic exchanges.
In short: Violate the Rules / TOS of search engines and surely in no time, your site will be banned. After it has been banned, it won't anymore appear as a SERP.
