Performance returns of mutual funds in the Philippines (as of 11/03/2006)
Below is a summary of the performance returns of existing Philippine mutual funds as of the week ended November 3, 2006.
As always, when analyzing mutual fund returns you should not simply look at the NAVPS or Net Asset Value per Share. This number does not necessarily tell you whether the fund is performing well or not, but the change of the NAVPS over time does. Never thus assume that a fund with a high NAVPS means it is generating high returns. You need to look at actual returns of the fund over a certain time horizon.
Highlights of this week's results
Stock funds
- On a year-to-date (YTD) basis — i.e., January 2006 until November 3, 2006 — the best performing stock fund is First Metro Save and Learn Equity Fund (56.91%).
- Other funds have also performed well, with the exception of the Philippine Stock Index Fund Corp which registered a loss (need to verify) and United Fund, Inc. that generated a return far below the total stock funds' average.
Balanced funds
- GSIS Kinabukasan Fund, MFCP Kabuhayan Fund, Philam Fund, Inc, and Sun Life Prosperity Balanced Fund, Inc. have been performing consistently above average on a YTD, 1-year, 3-year or 5-year horizon
Bond funds

- On a YTD basis, Ekklesia Mutual Fund Inc. has the highest return (16.52%), but on a 1-year return basis, it is a close second to Prudential Fixed Income Fund Inc. (22.45%).
- As for US Dollar-denominated bond funds, Sun Life Prosperity Dollar Abundance Fund has the highest YTD return (7.26%) but Philam Dollar Bond Fund, Inc. has the highest 1-year return (11.1%); however, returns of other USD-denominated funds are not far behind
Money market funds
- Sun Life Prosperity Money Market Fund, Inc. performs relatively better compared to the only other money market fund, Legacy TD Fund, Inc.
