Filipinos more interested in “sex” than “money”
October 24, 2006
More Filipinos look for “sex” than “money” — in Google search, that is.
Google Trends (www.google.com/trends), a tool from Google Labs that charts how often a particular term is entered relative to the total number of searches done, has proven that Filipino internet users search for the keyword “sex” more often than the keyword “money.”
Google’s data for Philippine searches from 2004 up to 2006 shows that the number of searches for the term “sex” easily eclipsed the number of searches for the keyword “money,” which remained stagnant since 2004.
Searches for “sex” even experienced several spikes during the two-year horizon. (See Fig. 1)

“Sex” also reigns supreme over “business.” More Filipinos Google the term “business” in contrast to “money,” but the number of searches still pale in comparison to “sex” which is double or triple the amount of searches for the keyword “business” (See Fig. 2).

Filipinos are not that much interested to look for a “job” either. The number of searches for the term “job” is almost the same as the number of searches for the term “business.” (See Fig. 3)

Overall, the number of searches for the terms “money,” “business,” and “job” combined is still no match to the magic word “sex.”
Does this mean Filipinos are really more interested in sex than making money? No wonder we are poor and, uhmm, overpopulated.
Discuss this in this forum discussion thread.

PS. Apparently, we’re not alone. Search trends for the rest of the world show we all have the same passion for “sex” (See Fig. 4).
What can we say? Long live, Freud!

i think the demographics of the pinoy internet users should be studied first befor this conclusion is reached. janet’s comment that no wonder most pinoys are poor is simply a worng conclusion based from a wrong assumption and a lot of wrong conclusions in between. a country being poor just because internet users type in sex more than money is simply a over simplification of the thought process.

Nabanggit ang PMT sa Noypi ng ABS-CBN dahil sa article na ‘to. =D “Mas interesado raw ang Pinoy sa sex kaysa sa pera ayon sa PinoyMoneyTalk.com.”

I remember hearing poor people say that it is good to have many children because these kids will help them when they grow old. The thing is, it usually never happens. The reality is, when these kids grow up they either stay dependent upon their parents or have their own family and worries of their own to think of helping their parents financially.

^ Add to that is the fact that a lot of Filipinos lack the passion and determination to really make money. Some Pinoy parents even try to produce a lot of kids, thinking they can “enhance their chances” of getting rich by doing so, without realizing that they only compound their own financial problems.

no wonder many filipinos are still poor.
they think of nightly pleasure than what to eat tomorrow or where to send their kids in the future

[...] Use search terms other than "money" in our preceding "sex-vs.-money" Google search analysis and results would have been different. [...]
